Hello! Let me start off by saying that I am a new dm. Up to this point, I have mainly been writing the general storyline and plot points for a campaign in the future, but my question is for a oneshot I want to run to get used to actually running a session. The idea follows that the characters will choose sides; angles or demons. Each side will have its own powerhouses to fight alongside and against the players. I have versions of Archangels who appear to be humanoid creatures with large wing spans and powerful magic to accompany them. These versions of archangels will be a step below that of Lucifer, the original archangel.
My question is, how do I make these archangels seem more like a boss as a whole without being overpowered? I have found a few homebrew races that I have thought about using to make them more like characters, or should I make them into "monsters" instead? Honestly, I'm open to any and all advice. Thank you for your time.
For NPCs I always recommend monster stat blocks. They are much simpler to find abilities etc, though DDB doesn't currently have a good tool for tracking them...
The defacto angels in D&D are the Deva, planetar, and solar, there are a couple of angels from ravnica setting, but those are more like Valkyries.
For demons, you probably want to use devils. Devil's and demons are completely different types of fiends in D&D (literally at war with each other). The first devil's were fallen angels though, so those are probably the ones you want.
