So I thought of an idea to restrain most of my players, but on of them is playing a plasmoid. So I was wondering if a plasmoid can be restrained by the Iron Bands of Binding or can a plasmoid squeeze through the Bands because of their Amorphous trait.
I would say no. And I don't think the plasmoid would have advantage on the attempt to escape the restrained condition either.
EDIT: I meant to say I don't think the plasmoid would be able to circumvent the bands. My initial post looked like I might have been saying I don't think the bands would work--they would!
I would think they’d work on the plasmoid. They’re magic. Magic just works. You can flavor it as them reshaping themselves to match whatever the plasmoid is doing.
Rules-wise being amorphous doesn't counteract the restrained condition so you simply cannot move, regardless of how easily you can normally fit through gaps. Plus it's a rare magic item so it shouldn't really be counterable by a 1st-level racial trait that doesn't specifically do-so.
The way I'd think about it logically is that even if you were able to squeeze out through a gap in the bands, doing so would cause them to constrict further (less mass inside them) so you'd be risking losing some of your mass if the bands constrict enough to slice you apart.
A similar case if you restrained a Druid; they can wildshape into something tiny like an insect, but the bands place no restriction on how small a creature can be (only Gargantuan creatures are immune), so the ball would simply get smaller until it can't escape anyway.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
