I'm just curious what the commuinity thinks about a ranger having to see his target drop to zero hit points or find it's dead corpse on the ground before being able to target another creature in case he does not see his marked target drop to zero hit points.
Yes I saw this happen to a ranger where his target dropped to zero hit points out of his sight and was unable to discern this per the Dms decision unable to move the Hunter'sMark to another target.

I'm not responsible for managing your feelings or how you perceive or understand what I say and if you get offended, it doesn't make you right just means you cry and whine louder. I grew up in a time where sticks and stone may break my bones but words will never hurt me, such a missing trait among younger people nowadays.
You don't need to see the target of your Hunter’s Mark die, you must only see when you choose a target to mark it as your quarry.
Hunter's Mark: You choose a creature you can see within range and mystically mark it as your quarry....If the target drops to 0 hit points before this spell ends, you can use a bonus action on a subsequent turn of yours to mark a new creature.
Yeah, it's a magic mark. It makes perfect sense that the caster would know via magical means when the marked target drops to 0 hp, and the mark is now free to be transferred to another target

Actually, it's interesting: Is the Hunter's Mark a magical guage that will inform you whether your target has died or not?
It doesn't say in the spell description that it does this, so .. by default, it doesn't. On the other hand, you can move the mark if the enemy dies. So really, it depends on what happens if you try to move the mark, when the enemy is still alive: Does it fail or not? Does the spell end?
it's propably not - or rarely - important. But for fighting say, an Invisible Stalker, it could be quite relevant.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
If the target drops to 0 hit points before this spell ends, you can use a bonus action on a subsequent turn of yours to mark a new creature. So while it doesn't tell you when it dies, you should know when you can now take a bonus action to mark a new creature, which means the other died because you can't mark two creatures at the same time.

The short pithy answer is no you don't need to see the creature drop to 0 because the spell doesn't say you need to see them drop to 0.
The longer answer that actually tries to BE an answer is, keep in mind that the spell also gives you advantages on checks to find the marked creature. If you're trying to find it, you obviously can't see it. Therefore the connection between you and your marked prey isn't limited by line of sight. You're formed a mystical bond with the target, it's totally reasonable to infer that you will sense when that target has died.

I would say since the spell only targets creatures, once the target dies it is no longer a creature but a corpse (object) so you would know
