So I'm in a PvP campaign and one of my opponents is a changeling bard. I want to reveal his true form without metagaming. I am a wizard. Is there anyway I can casually reveal his form?
edit: I have a plan, but on a second hand, if I want to cast moonbeam, a Druid spell, but wizards don't learn it, could I copy it into my spell book and cast it?
Suggestion could convince them to reveal their true form. Command is a bit iffy since it's only a single word and would be up to DM interpretation. Either one of course requires that you know they aren't in their true form, so that's going to be an insight check.
By casual I mean without knowing. My plan was to somehow cast moonbeam to reveal it and be an accident, but I can't do that. All I've got left is killing him, and after 635 matches there's only been 3 deaths, so it's unlikely that he dies.
Does your character know the Bard is a changeling? If not, then trying to think up a spell that would reveal that is the absolute definition of metagaming. If your character has knowledge or suspicions about the bard, then True Seeing is your only foolproof option to reveal it. Some kind of ruse might also work, or Suggestion worded something like "Your enemy is coming! Quickly adopt a different form to disguise yourself!" might be enough to force the bard to change, thus revealing its nature.
Actually, true seeing might work. And I'm looking for spells that reveali T in an accidental way, as with moonbeam it deals damage and creates light, but also reveals shapechangers. This bard has a knack for minor illusion, so true seeing could be a casual way to reveal it.
Moonbeam wouldn't work unless the DM is willing to bend the rules. As written right now in Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron, Changelings aren't tagged as shapechangers.

Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.
Well to answer your second question, no, wizards can't copy non-wizard spells into their book.
Hmmm....can you buy a scroll of true sight? Or use Command or Suggestion to have the changing shift to its true form?
