I'm playing through Storm King's Thunder and my DM just gave me doled out an Ise Rune and an Ild Rune. As I'm generally moving towards the Frontline as a caster/melee multiclass, I was a little disappointed in getting the Ild Rune instead of the benefits the Ise Rune would give me (that Ice Armor is useful when you're a slightly squishy caster against bigger things).
So, I come to the forums for some advice on how to make the most use put of the Ild Rune. The wording makes it seem that the rune does not have any restrictions against using it to set worn or held objects on fire (ie. an enemy's pants), so my idea is to literally set the pants of anyone that irks me on fire. Would this be possible? Is the Rune worth its abilities or should I just use it to add 1d6 fire damage to my Sword?
As a DM. I would probably allow such use, but it would basically function like a lesser version of throwing oil on someone and lighting it (as oil is extremely flammable, much more so than say pants). Probably dealing 1d4+1 damage rather than the 5 damage oil could deal.

I will have to check the item later as I just buried the Storm King book under other books. But First what is your sword?
Adding it to your sword would make your sword magical. So that could be a consideration if your sword isn't already magical.
Using a plain, old Rapier and a Scimitar as my primary weapons.
