The rogue was using a dancing sword but gave it to me, it was a short sword, can it resize to become a long sword? Sort of how magic armour can resize to fit the wearer?
If I were a DM allowing the playing of various sizes of creature as PCs, I might extend the magic items resizing to be wearable trait to weapons - but then a short sword would just resize to being a short sword of whatever your size is (mediums short sword to huge short sword, or so on).
But like scale male doesn't resize to be plate mail just because the new wearer would prefer it, a dancing short sword would not resize to be a dancing long sword.

I don't think so. It would be great, but dancing sword is a property and then it is applied to a specific type of sword.
The best you can hope for is an enlarge spell and the extra d4 of damage that provides.
We all leave footprints in the sands of time.
