Why does this weapon not have versatile? It's basically a short spear, there isn't a short spear in the items so it's the only option for someone who wants to weild one. Seams like an oversight to me.
the spear is 1d6 1 handed and 1d8 2 handed, thrown 20/60. the yklwa is 1d8 1 handed, thrown 10/30. both are simple weapons.
You compare this to the martial weapons
longsword/battleaxe/warhammer: 1d8 & versatile and require the martial weapon.
If the yklwa was also versatile it would probably be considered "broken" because it's as good and possible better (thrown) than it's Martial Weapon equivalents, but for the cost of a Simple weapon.
My understanding was the spear was 1d6 as a thrown weapon and 1d8 as two handed melee weapon, ie using two hands to stab with the spear. Maybe I misunderstood.

It is 1d6 one handed and thrown, and 1d8 two handed.

Versatile. This weapon can be used with one or two hands. A damage value in parentheses appears with the property--the damage when the weapon is used with two hands to make a melee attack.
There's nothing in the versatile definition about a two handed ranged attack, just melee.

You are right. I meant to put parentheses stating that 1 handed throw was a personal ruling because I cant picture a two handed throw.

Because it's a Simple Weapon, not a Martial Weapon.
Use a spear call it short. Or did you want a weapon that does more damage with one hand? Because you can't have it all (unless you homebrew it).
They're both simple melee weapons.
I should clarify more.

the yklwa is 1d8 1 handed, thrown 10/30.

Neither can I lol
