What I’m asking is, would it work? It is a Gargantuan creature, so it is 20ft by 20ft tall and wide. There are a few problems though. Here’s my plan.
I cast Prismatic wall and trap it in a sphere centered around it, since it is 20ft by 20ft, and the sphere is 30ft in diameter.
that’s it really. So, here’s my questions.
Can it pass through the barriers? I know it can try and be punished for doing so, as it moves through but takes damage, but will it actually be able to go through a layer? Say it tries to move past the orange layer. It takes damage. Does it go through?
Would using it like this violate the rule that it can’t occupy a creature’s space? It’s not occupying it, but it is centers around, so...
The Kraken can go through the Prismatic Wall and if it does it suffers the effect of each of the layers in order. Plus, it's meant to do exactly what you're thinking about doing, trap an opponent inside of it for 10 minutes unless that opponent either dispels all 7 layers or voluntarily accepts the effects of all 7 layers of the wall.
Since the Kraken is incredibly intelligent and old, all that Prismatic Wall will do is give you a 10 minute break before it ends and the Kraken is let out. It will just sit in the wall, ready attacks if anyone pokes their head in, and wait out the 10 minute duration of the spell. That's not really a threat since it's so big that you can't go into the wall and successfully grapple it and move it into the wall, forcing it to suffer the effects of all 7 layers.
Just cast enlarge/reduce on it first. That'll probably make it small enough, and prismatic wall is not concentration. After you get the wall up, drop concentration on the shrink, and watch as the kraken goes through all of the wall's layers, therefore causing all of the effects.
How it works, the way I see it, is if it passes through the wall, it must make the save for each layer. All of the saves happen on the same turn. So technically, it could escape, but probably will get two rounds of the wall damage piled on it.

Check out the Wall of Stone for a permanent wall. But even then the Kraken will eventually batter it's way out of the wall. It's meant to be the final opponent of a campaign before retiring the characters and starting over with new characters from 1st level.
1. Depending on the DM they might be a stickler for the rules and say that since the point that the sphere is centered may not be in your vision you might be unable to cast the spell, just because the strict wording with the spell, where it might fail completely and waste the spell slot.
2. Gargantuan in the DMG can mean 20 ft x 20 ft or large, so the DM might have it be extra-large in size.
3. The kraken tentacle has a range of 30 ft and it doesn't say that it pulls the target closer to is so the kraken might be spreading with its tentacle becoming large than 30 ft in that one dimension.

This is why I said you should have enlarge/reduce. If the thing is larger than the sphere, just halve its size and it'll probably fit.

I was under the impression that, unlike in previous editions, Wall of Stone is not permanent in 5e.

If you maintain concentration for 10 minutes it’s permanent. Otherwise it’s temporary.
Hello! I am in quite a bit of a predicament on this subject as well. So, I'm a level 2 sorcerer in a campaign called West Marches, there's not really a story line we just kind of make parties with the players in our server and do quests. One quest available is to bring back a live kraken, and I, being the simple fool that I am, saw the reward money being 5,500 gp and took it immediately, not fully understanding the raw power of the kraken. I have no idea how to transport a live kraken across possibly hundreds of miles. I looked into different spells that might be able to help, like enlarge/reduce, wall of stone, and any spell on the sorcerer/wizard spell list that might be able to help (even ones I can't cast yet, considering I can't cast most spells), and to no avail. They all have a duration of either 1 minute or 10 minutes, and won't be able to help me long enough to transport him back. I don't know of any magic items that could help, and I'm not sure if there are even any regular items that I could use, like rope or a gargantuan fish tank. At this point, I just wanna know if it's even possible to catch a live kraken and bring it back. Any input would be appreciated, thanks all!
Can you... trap a Kraken with Prismatic wall?

Aww.... I thought Prismatic Wall lasted forever... so.. is there any way to permanently trap a creature so big?
The Kraken is 20'x20'. The Prismatic Wall is a 30' in diameter. It will fit inside of the wall quite comfortably.

The go-to spell for trapping the big evils of the world is Imprisonment. Level 9, but this sort of thing is not supposed to be easy.
Three points of worry:
1. Depending on the DM they might be a stickler for the rules and say that since the point that the sphere is centered may not be in your vision you might be unable to cast the spell, just because the strict wording with the spell, where it might fail completely and waste the spell slot.

Guys, pls."
