I had a game mechanic question that isn’t so much a clarification as it’s a player choice that needs to be weighed in on. To clarify they topped for stats.
In out of the Abyss there is a point in which the characters get to choose a blessing in the form of a +1 to their weapons (attacks and dc saves included in this campaign) or + 1 AC and +1 to all waves.
Currently there is a Wizard in the party who is unsure what they should take. They have a +3 Dex, and a + 2 gold bracers of armor. In addition they do cast mage armor frequently. Currently they have a 20 int and they are lv five for a 16 dc save or +8 to attack spells.
in addition the party has a Purple dragon knight halfling with 20 strength for a + 8 to attack but no magic sword as well as no shield for character reasons. He also sports an 8 wisdom total and we’re worried he may get possessed /confused and party wipe us.
As far as what should be taken, is it better for the wizard and fighter to bump their saves and ac to keep themselves alive/not controlled or to increase their attacks and dc saves ?
obviously they each might have different choices. I wanted to see if there was a consensus as to which ones each should take as I despite liking the “realism” of the threat of death want to know what would work best for these two players
Personally I would probably go with +1 offense for the wizard since boosting your save DC is so difficult. For the fighter, probably defense since they're likely to get hit with more stuff in general.
That said, there are very good reasons for making the other choice in both cases, so it can easily go either way.
