I'm looking through the franchise tasks section and I can't find the DCs for any of the checks, or where it suggests/advises on setting the DCs. Does anyone know if it's actually in the book or if it just uses the standard DC spread?
The Acq Inc. book looks like it gives a LOT of discretion to the DM. I'd just make up a DC based on the standard guidelines and how insane the party's idea is. :)
There are ways suggested in the book. Like for "Exploring territory" it says "A character or staff member directing the expedition makes a Wisdom (Survival) check to determine the outcome. This check gains a +2 bonus if a character with the cartographer or occultant position is part of the expedition, a +1 bonus for each workweek beyond the first that is spent exploring, and a +1 bonus for every additional 200 gp spent over the baseline expenses. A maximum bonus of +10 can be applied to this check. The total of the check determines the outcome, as shown on the Exploration Discoveries table." Then there's a table that lists results based on the check number generated.
Because it's not strictly a DC. Roll survival, add the relevant bonuses listed, and if the total result is 1-5 thing X happens. If the total is 6-10, thing Y happens. It's not really "success" vs. "failure".
There are checks that strictly use a DC for success/failure, Headquarters Modification being one of them. But it doesn't seem to list a DC as far as I can see.
Most of the downtime activities use a DC table because the outcomes are non-binary as Maestrino said. For those the amount of the check is compared to the table to get the result. Consult the separate tables for each downtime activity.
I found one exception that used a DC of 2d10+5, to create a random DC.
Yes, but the problem I'm having is with the Headquarters Modification task which has a number of successes based outcome, but no DC to determine success/failure
Sorry didn't understand that you were specifically referring to the Headquarters Modification task.
As far as I can see there are no hard DC's attached to anything, so 100% DM discretion.
As a suggestion, Rank 4 secret features mentions opposing DC of 25 to notice them so this wouldn't be a bad baseline DC for Secret features. Working backwards from that you could use the following as a baseline, Cosmetic or Expansion DC 10, Transportation or Weapon DC 15, Arcane or Defense DC 20, Secret DC 25.
Yeah, I was starting to suspect that it was DM discretion, but was at least hoping for a rough guide, maybe based on what feature was being changed or whatnot. I might just have the DC be something like 10 + Twice Franchise Rank or something.
I noticed this too, for HQ modification. They said roll skill checks, but not what the DC is. And it doesn't specifically say "DM makes it up" for this one. Feels like they left it out, because the task right before HQ Mod, "Franchise Restructuring" specifically states "two DC 13 + Rank Checks". I think i'll just copy paste this down for all the other downtime activities if its not listed otherwise.

But does it say that is what I'm asking. Like, is there a section that says "when a task requires a skill check, you can set the DC as you see fit"?

Yeah, but that doesn't make any suggestions about the DC, or suggestions on how the DM should set the DC

You can do a "find in page." I mostly saw DC as they related to kits though.
That's the first thing I did before posting and no joy

Thanks for trying to help though :)
