If an Artificer is using a firearm and uses the infusion Repeating Shot, does the magically created ammunition produce a report?
Repeating Shot
Item: A simple or martial weapon with the ammunition property (requires attunement)
This magic weapon grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it when it’s used to make a ranged attack, and it ignores the loading property if it has it.
If you load no ammunition in the weapon, it produces its own, automatically creating one piece of magic ammunition when you make a ranged attack with it. The ammunition created by the weapon vanishes the instant after it hits or misses a target.
I get the auditory effect of the gun powder exploding has no mechanical impact, and I am aware the DM is the final arbiter of the rules. I am looking for arguments to either way to better implement the use of the infusion and firearms. To that end, my "rules as intended" question can be reworded to does the "Magically created ammunition" for a create all 3 powder, wadding and shot or just the shot?
Well I would say the weapon functions as normal - it's just the infusion makes the ammunition. Which means yes it makes everything required to shoot and therefore will also make a bang when you shoot.
Essentially - it doesn't say it changes the way firing that ammunition works so it doesn't change it.
I would rule that the infusion simply replicates the weapon's normal ammunition - in this case the cartridge, or the mess of loose crap that predates a cartridge. You still operate the weapon normally, and it functions the way it's intended to function.
Any interpretation which causes the weapon not to give off any blast or sound more or less rules the infusion to be mini-Catapulting the ammunition, independently of the weapon. That's a negatory. if you want to deal with the report, the Silence spell is golden for you.
Any properties of the ammunition itself are not altered in any way.
A crossbow still uses crossbow bolts, a sling still uses stones, a primitive -> modern firearm still uses bullets--or whatever version of "physical object propelled via combustion" your firearm use--futuristic firearms still use energy cells, etc. If your weapon produces sound with mundane ammo, it still produces sound with infusion-produced ammo.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
... yes? How crafting works in your campaign is entirely up to the DM, so full stop just ask them and go from there.

The propellant is part of the ammunition requirement for a firearm, so, I'd say the Infusion conjures propellant when it loads the firearm.
As such, yes, there would be a report - presuming the GM's world has firearms that work with black powder. As opposed to being, say, some sort of railgun, or a pneumatic system. :)

"Dovie'andi se tovya sagain."
A firearm's report has no mechanical impact, so if your DM wants to houserule a mechanical impact, it's up to them to account for it.

Nothing about the infusion says the magic launches the projectile, so presumably the physical firing process isn’t affected.
