I am a pretty new player to D&D and from time to time manage to come up with the craziest ideas for D&D in general but usually struggle to pour this idea in the mould that is D&D mechanics. (probably because i lack knowledge of what is out there and that is why I arrived on this forum) Right now i came up with the idea of creating a Player Character who's mentally insane (Chaotic Neutral allignment).
bit of the backstory: As a youngling, (character's name) never really understood how to cast his own spells and found it discouraging to see with how little effort the mages around him casted spells, but X never gave up on his dream to some day go on adventures himself.
The idea for this character is that he will not be a direct damage-dealer himself, but instead is able to provide the entire party with spells (through any means that the D&D-rules allow). Quite essential is that the other party-members should be able to cast the spells that X provides, regardless of the party-member's classes. I also want the spells i hand out to be of my own choosing. (a friend of mine suggested to use rings of spell-storing instead of self-made scrolls, since scrolls can only be read by specific classes and to pick a class that can craft trinkets and jewellery ==> Multiclass Forge-Cleric + Wizard)
What do you all think?
Ps: this is my very first thread post on DnD-Beyond. If i misplaced it or did anything wrong, i am truthfully sorry and will do my best to fix it.
The divination wizard lets you hand out rolls to your friends, and there are some spells (like Dragon’s Breath) that imbue your allies with spell like abilities. Or, the Order Cleric lets you boss your party around to make weapon attacks whenever you cast spells on them. Magic Stone stands out as a Cantrip designed to be used by others. And forge clerics, artificers, invention wizards, and mark of making humans all have ways to give buffs or magic items to others.
Other than that, though, I can’t think of a way to cast your spells through someone else the way you’re describing
the character i described is more like: I hand out spells to whomever i want, (usually fireball, cuz i'm insane) and they make the choice of wether they want to cast it or not.
The idea would allow for the party to have 4-5 fireballs casted within 1 combat turn. (if i prepare this carefully enough) (1 combat turn being: the entire turn-rotation has been completed 1nce; all players and monsters have done their actions, after this "Combat Turn 2" starts)
Right now i came up with the idea of creating a Player Character who's mentally insane (Chaotic Neutral allignment).
Pro tip: Attempting to portray someone suffering from a mental illness is a really poor idea. There are too many reasons to list.
As to your actual question, the closest thing that would work for your goal would be to get a Ring of Spell Storing for each of your party members. You can store spells in all of their rings, which they use to cast when they want, and it will use your spellcasting stats.
You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
I don't think it would really be viable even if you did get all your party members Rings of Spell Storing. The main reason being that your character will never do anything in combat and your party members will have to sacrifice their turn to basically take your turn for you by casting one of your spells. Either way a turn is going missing somewhere.
And I also agree with Sigred - don't do portrayals of mental illness because you're more than likely going to end up stereotyping it and that does nobody any favours. Best case it adds very little to the character and worst case it can really upset someone.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.

Perhaps your DM can come up with a home brew solution for you, but no, there is no way to build that in 5E.
