Just a little FYI for all folks who have argued about this issue in the past. Latest printing of Xanathar's Guide now says that Healing Spirit can, at most, healing a number of creatures equal to 1+ spellcasting modifer. Also in Sage Advice.
I just found out recently when someone pointed it out to me as well. While i think the healing conga line was overpowered, doing it outside of combat to top off is pretty eh, who cares? There's a lot of other things I'd have preferred that the spend cycles errata-ing.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Making Arcane Archers capable of actually using their class feature was a nice move. Other than going beyond RAI vs RAW fixes to do some substantive re-examination of poor design choices (like "Identifying a Spell" and Counterspell's action economy conflict), I'm not sure what other minor fixes were needed in Xanathar's..... ooh, I see one more, they could have reworded Ice Knife to say " Targets within 5 feet of it must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 cold damage," if it's really the intention that all creatures affected by a spell are a target of that spell (which I don't think is actually the case, but which has been argued back and forth in the past by those not comfortable with Ice Knife being a single-target spell).

I totally agree with you that it should be a single target spell ( and as such, a legal target for Twin Cast Metamagic ) it has been declared in no uncertain terms by the devs that it is not an eligible target. Nonsensical icicle is what it should really be called...
OMG this is great! Now the spell actually functions in a believable & balanced manner. Being able to crank ~5 individual heals (18 WIS) out of a single spell slot & single bonus action is still ridiculously powerful (and still ends up scaling to be the absolute best healing spell in existence), but it's something I think we can all at least live with.
If I were to keep tuning the spell for balance (because it's definitely still OP), I'd change Healing Spirit to be a d4 instead of d6... using a 9th level slot, 8d6*5 from Healing Spirit is still insanely more powerful than a single 9d8+Wis from Cure Wounds. Maybe make Healing Spirit usable 2+mod times before disappearing.
I've always viewed this spell's intended role as an attempt at replicating HoT mechanics for a tabletop environment--lots of small heals, over the course of an encounter, on a single target. It's a support spell for tanks. It's a low-resource, high-efficiency spell that should only be more efficient than Cure Wounds when the encounter lasts long enough to fully burn all of the uses per slot.

I think pre errata Healing Spirit was fine. It was the rangers one god spell, and designers intended adventures to be full HP for an encounter, and HS ensured that,

The official errata document will be released "soon"? Three months later, and no errata...
I mean I don't have a recently-published Xanathar's hardcopy in front of me, but considering the date of that post (April 1), I'm skeptical?
Edit: Ah, it made its way into the dndbeyond version, so looks legit. Huh!
Edit Edit: Ah, and the errata document does exist! https://media.wizards.com/2020/dnd/downloads/XGtE-Errata.pdf

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
