I like the eladrin. They're cool, but the statblock seems sorta broken. I mean, its a CR 10 but can be played as a race (and the race is humanoid, not fey). A level 6 Wizard eladrin probably lose against a eladrin (monster) with no class levels.
Couldn't they have just made eladrin a CR 1/2 or something like that?
The Eladrin race option is meant to represent an Eladrin that has spent most of their life outside the feywild, hence their humanoid creature type.
The Eladrin stat block is an Eladrin that has lived most of their life in the feywild, hence being fey.
CR doesn't represent the innate strength of the race, but of that person. The CR10 Eladrin stat blocks are just powerful Eladrin, likely ones that have been alive for centuries, you could make a CR 1/2 Eladrin by taking a CR 1/2 humanoid, changing their monster type to fey and maybe giving them some Eladrin traits. A CR10 Eladrin is designed to be put in an encounter against a level 10 party.
