Hi there, Our Ranger has been using clubs for Two Weapon fighting... He was wondering about his Hit/DC for them and I assumed that because he is proficient in simple weapons and two weapon fighting that it would be his Dex mod plus his proficiency mod. He thinks that it is his Str mod (which is much lower) plus his proficiency because it is a club. Is a club a Str mod or a Dex mod when Two Weapon fighting? Thanks.
it doesn't matter if you are or aren't two weapon fighting, the only weapons that use DEX are range weapons OR weapons with finesse. All other weapons are STR based.

Yes, and since clubs are not finesse weapons, they use strength for attack and damage rolls.
Awesome, thanks. Like I posted, I thought Dex would be used as it this two-weapon fighting.
many "light" weapons also have the "finesse" tag (Which is what allows the use of DEX for melee weapons), but they are not the same tag, and don't always overlap. Two-Weapon Fighting only requires the "light" tag, and doesn't mention finesse at all, so its not the default for that feat/fighting style.

Clubs do not have the finesse tag therefore they use strength for attack and damage.
As others have said, melee attacks always use STR unless the weapons have the Finesse property (in which case you can choose between DEX and STR).
Purely out of interest (and in no way criticising you) could I ask what made you think that DEX would be used?
