I know Order of Scribes is UA so there may not be a RAW answer to this but Order of Scribes has a 2nd level ability which, among other things, states "When you cast a wizard spell with a spell slot, you can temporarily replace its damage type with the damage type of another spell in your spellbook, as your spellbook magically alters the spell’s formula for this casting."
If I were to cast Shatter which deals thunder damage, could I use any of the damage types in Chromatic Orb as the replacement?
Actually dndbeyond made a video about it and they said that if you upcast a spell to the same level as another one you can switch the damage types. They used ice storm and scorching Ray upcast to 4th level as an example.
You can replace the damage type of a spell upcasted with the damage type of another spell in your spellbook of the same level as the spell slot you expend.

DxJxC is correct. You are also correct. Neither of you are talking about the same thing. The "actually" isn't necessary.

I'm probably laughing.
It is apparently so hard to program Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul spell-swapping into dndbeyond they had to remake the game without it rather than implement it.
So what I'm getting is that if you expend a spell slot on lets say magic missile at level two then you could swap the damage out with a type that is from the expended slot level, so you couldn't use chromatic orb but you could use dragon breath, which would give your first two spell levels massive versatility. Beyond that im not sure if there are higher multiple damage type spells.

Correct. You could use Dragon's Breath for a versatility element spell in your book. Aside from Chromatic Orb you could use Absorb Elements for a good chunk of types at 1st level slots too.

Actually, Order of scribes made the jump to official print in TCoE.
That feature gained the following sentence though:
So technically no, since chromatic orb is level 1 and shatter can never be cast with a 1st level slot, but otherwise, yes that is how it works.
Oh nice that it went official. Alright so as long as the spell slots are the same it works with Chromatic Orb. Thank you.
So only other spells of spell level 1 will work with chromatic orb? It doesn't matter that CO can be upcasted, since the actual spell level is 1?
That is what the feature says, yes.

At higher levels there are some that also have multiple damage types. Spells like Prismatic Spray and Prismatic Wall have 7th and 9th level spells pretty well covered. Elemental Weapon and Elemental Bane gives some good options for 3rd and 4th level. Glyph of Warding could work for 3rd too.
