Does anyone know the social standing of wood elves compared to the other sub races?, hoping to know so I have down so I know how to play it for my campaign.
They live in forests, usually in tree houses, often inviting owlbears to live beneath them to protect the elves. They are much more wild and attached to nature than high elves. Their favoured weapons are the bow and longswords. They make good rangers, fighters and druids.

I remember hearing from my dm that were basically at the bottom of the totem pole in the past, practically part second class citizens / part outright slaves. Though that would not surprise me fundamentally do you know any specific part in the lore where it is mentioned?

What world are you in? Cause I would have thought that Wood Elves don't care about law or civilization, thus them not even being part of a social standing. However, if they were, I don't think they'd be like slaves. Their traits say that they can wield swords and bows, making them good fighters.

That's for the Forgotten Realms - in other campaign settings, this may (and probably will) vary.
