Hey everyone! So I'm working on the next part of my Theros campaign and I'm working on a chapter in which the Titans are brought back to life and the characters must band together with all their allies and the Gods of Theros to defeat them. Now looking in the source book there's no Titan monster, so I'm gonna have to make them Homebrew. And they're gonna have to be like Uber strong because in Greek Mythology the Titans power rivaled the power of the Gods. But I'm having a pretty hard time trying to figure out what the PC's could do to defeat the Titans.
I was thinking about maybe having them scour Theros in search of some sort of ancient powerful artifact that could give them a strong edge against the Titans (like say killing a Mythic monster could give them said artifact). But when I look back to Mythology, the Titans/Gods could never really be defeated. Just locked away somewhere. So, I'm kinda stumped here.
You said it yourself. Said artifact could be used to try and lock them up. Either have it take a certain amount of time during which the characters must simply try to stay alive and defend the artifact user or maybe don't have them fighting the Titans directly at all and use a series of "quests" to gather one or several artifacts to defeat them by locking them up again.
If they have Gods backing them up, unless your PCs are as strong as Gods in your campaign, they're probably not the ones who are going to be the main fighters in this event anyway. Maybe the Gods just need some help from the PCs to gather said artifacts while the Gods hold the Titans back long enough for them to return and finally lock them up? You can even make it a race against time and have certain events planned for each X days have passed since their return and the quicker the PCs are able to complete the quest to assist the Gods, the less casualties and possibly the bigger the rewards from their Godly allies as well?
If the Titans bust out of their prison, that has a lot implications. How did they get out/why now, of all times? What shape is the door in - can they just be stuffed back in? Etc.
You could have the PCs go to a place the Gods will not tread due to ancient treaties they signed, perhaps the Feywild, seeking materials to make a new door out of. That would be extremely similar to how the dwarves helped restrain Fenrir in Norse mythology, just with some mortal involvement added in. Meanwhile, there to stop them is the mortal organization that sprang the Titans in the first place.
By the time the heroes would be facing the Titans, the idea would be for them to be maxed out (lvl 20) or at least lvl 18. But even if they're that strong...idk what they're chances would be of going up against a Titan and winning. Let alone several of them.
Because now that I think about it, if the Titans rivaled the power of the Gods...then I'd like to think it's CR would probably be as high as a Tarrasque or a bit less. So even with a party of 5 maxed out characters...I really don't think they're chances of winning would be very high.
So I'm starting to think maybe the smarter approach would be to have the Gods deal with the Titans while the characters handle another task more to they're level. Like fighting the wizard controlling the Titans or something to that degree. What y'all think?

The risk with that approach is you want the PCs to be the heroes of the story, not the junior varsity squad. It would feel anticlimactic for the players to sit and watch while the gods were the real heroes.
The artifact that closes the titans away is a good idea. Maybe it’s something only mortals can wield, so it has to be the PCs, and can’t be the gods. You could even give them a choice if they want to use it to lock away the titans, or switch teams and lock away the gods instead.
The Gods are trapped by the Titans and their allies using special artifacts and the heroes must rescue them by disabling said artifacts used by the Titans's allies (and defeating them in the process). Once the Gods are freed, they can repel the Titans and seal them back in their prison.
Soo.....this is kind of what I'm doing in my campaign. Titans are sealed away by artifacts crafted by the gods themselves, and a baddie is trying to awaken and then release the titans by collecting divine relics to hack the seal. Party's in a race against time to collect/safeguard the remaining artifacts to stop the titans' release. If they don't, they'll have figure out how to re-seal the titans themselves.

Any ideas/suggestions?

What level characters?...

Appreciate the suggestions.

Check out this 5e conversion of Elder Evils monster stats. The Hulks of Zoretha were my inspiration. There's also an associated campaign guide.
Thank you all for the suggestions! I think I've figured something out.
