So my group's got a level 10 battle royale coming up, and I'd like to see what people think of my character idea so far (I don't have a complete sheet, as things are still up in the air). As for the basics of the battle, there will be 6 players (I don't know much about the other characters...hopefully the other players don't see this thread...) and we are each allowed one starting weapon. We will not be allowed to start with armor/shields, but our dm has indicated that she will make these items available somehow.
Character Idea:
I'm thinking that focusing on defense is the key to winning. The goal isn't to kill the most players but to stay alive the longest.
Final stats (after rolled stats, racial bonuses, feats/asi, etc.): STR 16, DEX 12, CON 15, INT 14, WIS 10, CHA 10
Feats: War Caster, Resilient (taken twice for dex and wis)
I believe this provides fantastic defensive ability. Depending on the armor I get, I can have a respectable AC (21 if I get plate and a shield). I will have blur, which will help further protect me. With war caster, I virtually cannot lost concentration. I have great saves thanks to Yuan-Ti's magic resistance, resilient, and war magic's ability to add +4 to a save as a reaction. Slap on an immunity to poison and various defensive spells such as shield and absorb elements and you've got a character that's pretty hard to touch.
I didn't want to put every minute detail in this post, but these are the basics. What do you think? Should I change one of the resilients for an asi to improve CON? Are the 2 levels in wizard worth it? I'm open to any suggestions :)
I played in a battle royal some years ago at a con and it came down to me and a very defensive player at the end of time for the allotted game. I had a very offensive PC with very little defense (naked and invisible, stealth and a great weapon, 1 strike 1 kill hide and pick your time to attack.)
Have fun I think it would be ok but it depends on your oppoents.
There is a race that gets advantage on Int, Wis and Ch saves so you may want to look at that as a potential option.
It seems like a solid character. I can't see any huge changes I would make to it to accomplish the goal you're going for. I think the Resilience is the way to go... you've got enough boosts to your CON that you don't necessarily need the +1, but changing your DEX from a +5 to a +0 and your WIS from a +4 to a -1 would put you at a bigger disadvantage. I just hope, for your sake, that nobody at the table rolled significantly better than you.
Honestly, and this is a tangent, rolled stats don't strike me as a good idea for a battle royale. I'm not going to object if that's just what's fun for you and your group of friends, but I feel like a more even playing field should be the default starting position, even if you do go for one of those things where everyone rolls stats and then everyone just uses whichever stat array is the highest.
Would your character stand any chance against this:
Yuan-ti Pureblood druid with polymorph to cast on herself, with CON as her highest stat and Warcaster. Turning herself into a Giant Ape for a bonus 157 hit points and +9 attacks that deal 3d10+6 damage, making her stronger than any other possible PC while in this form. And if she loses concentration, then in total she has 2 level 5 and 3 level 4 slots, so that's potentially 5 transformations into a Giant Ape (restocking hit points back to 157 every time) to deal with.
But wait, there's more! If our druid feels sneaky, she can also cast Conjure Woodland Being (4th level) and then wildshape into a Giant Eagle and fly away with an 80ft flying speed, leaving you to deal with the minions. If the DM lets her choose the type of fey summoned with CWB, she can choose 8 Pixies. One of the Pixies then casts Fly on the druid, a second casts, you guessed it, polymorph on the druid, while the others hold back in reserve to cast confusion or more Polymorphs. This polymorph once again makes the druid into a... giant ape, for a potential total of 12-13 Giant Ape bodies to get through, depending on whether you are bothered about being a flying giant ape or not.
At level 10, there is no doubt that druids are vastly more powerful than any other class.

Another build to consider for effectiveness is the Aasimar (Protector, or MMotM equivalent) Hexblade 1, Devotion Paladin 6, Draconic Sorcerer 3.
You have a character adds Charisma as a bonus on all saves, and uses it for all spell attack rolls and save DCs, and adds the double the Charisma modifier to the Proficiency Bonus for weapon attack rolls. And the character can fly and see invisibility, so it can definitely take on those fairies while the caster/giant ape can only watch from below. And keep in mind, there's a lot of variables. One quickened Hold Person getting through a save (possibly via Silvery Barbs) could end its shot at victory.
Quick question...I was under the impression you can only take the resilient feat once?
Yup, unless the feat specifically says otherwise, you can only take each feat once. The only feat I know of that does say otherwise is elemental adept.

I agree. I was under the impression that these things used point buy specifically for customization and BALANCE.

Yeah, personally, I don’t like the way she’s running it
rolling for stats is bound to lead to imbalance, and not allowing characters to start with armor/shields favors casters over martials
but overall, I’m still excited and grateful that she’s putting it on

Very fair, I kinda don't think playing a character that only basically just polymorphs sounds super fun though
Also, it still may be pretty hard to hit me with all attacks being made with disadvantage and an AC up to 21, I can also use reactions to bring it up to 23 (with war magic ability) or 26 (shield spell), so even +9 will have trouble

That's why I'm going with Yuan-Ti, they get advantage on saving throws against "spells and magic affects," kinda op ngl
