So In summary gloom-stalker assassin and bear totem …. Is it viable
Yes it’s MAD buuut I’m here for rage Reckless Bear totem for resistance First round nova from gloom-stalker And obviously sneak attack
Stats 14 14 11 11 12 9 I’m joining a game In progress So they told me to roll and that’s what I got
I’m pretty sure that I want to go shadarkai from MMPMfor the teleport/add more resistance (in case I can’t rage, plus teleport does not provoke opportunity)
The problem I’m having is I’m not sure how to level… or if it’s even worth trying to level this and instead should choose to split it rogue barbarian/ or ranger rogue either way rogu needs to be one of the classes i multi class into
Then it becomes what is better bear totem and at that point any rogue ooooor assassin gloom stalker either way I don’t like the multi class of either of them past like level 12 which is why I was thinking of the triple multiclassing
Without looking at the details, I want you to realize you’ll be 9th level before you get all your subclasses. And that’s without any asi/feats. Also, that spread will be tough to work with, don’t forget you have score minimums to be able to multiclass, and you’ll also want a good con and good wis.
The problem I usually see when people want to take so many classes is they think they should be good at everything. But D&D is a team game, you’re part of a group, not a solo operator. In the end, you spread yourself too thin, and you’re third best at lots of things, but not best at anything. You end up never getting your moment, because there’s someone more specialized who will be better at whatever task needs doing. You’re much better off to pick one thing and be very good at it, than be a little bit good at a lot of things.
Well, first things first you need to have 13 in STR, DEX, and WIS to attempt this multiclass, so as those numbers stand you can’t hit all three. Also I would strongly recommend against any multiclass that wide until mid tier 3, if at all; you’re significantly more likely to feel like you’re underperforming in every area rather than something like “all your powers combined”. Honestly, given the numbers I’m seeing your best bet is probably a rogue/ranger multiclass or just picking one of the two. Regardless, I strongly recommend leveling one class to 5 before you branch out, there’s a big jump in power across that threshold.
Take barbarian to 5 picking up shadow touched(wis) at 4 then thief to 3 and finally ranger to 3. You'll be str wielding a finesse weapon and you can't HM with rage but you'll have decent ac with medium and shield as well as decent HP to go with rage. Shadow touched is thematic and should help with setting up ambushes. I'd call it viable if not great with a fair amount of out of combat utility.
I think Assassin isn't doing much for you in this build. You already get boosted damage from Barbarian, you can go reckless to get advantage, so the Assassin's ability to get advantage on attacks in the first round of combat isn't useful. You miss out on the auto-crit against surprised enemies, but a Gloomstalker Ranger alone can eliminate a single target with surprise in the first round anyway.
That said, you do seem to want Rogue, and that will ultimately pair more easily with Ranger than with Barbarian. Both classes require high DEX for multiclassing, and you can get more expertises through the new Ranger features, plus of the three classes mentioned Ranger is the only one that gives you a Fighting Style. Gloomstalker/Assassin is a crazy Nova build, and in those situations where you manage to surprise an enemy you'll be an absolute monster. Plus without rage you can concentrate on spells.
I would start but excising that Gloomstalker dip. Completely unnecessary and only serves to make this a build that will never be fully realized. Most likely because you don't get enough time to play through all of these levels. Delaying ASI's is a huge cost that is generally glossed over when discussing frankenstein mulitclass builds.
Barbarian/Rogue is fun though, and there are some synergies that make this worthwhile.
Unfortunately, your stats suck for the best barb/rogue build which is to take the Revenant Blade feat to turn the Double-Bladed Scimitar into a finesse weapon. You will still use it with your strength, but because it has been given the finesse property, it qualifies to deliver sneak attacks. And of course, reckless is making sure those sneak attacks flow like wine.
Frankly, I would consider going down this path regardless as a DBS barb is quite effective on its own before you start taking levels in rogue. Either way, take Barbarian for 5-8 levels. Everyone and their mom say leave Barb at 5, but 3x rages per day can actually feel really limiting depending on what kind of game you are in. If things edge a little more on the war-gamey side, or your DM just likes to throw multiple small encounters at you a lot, then getting to 6 and that 4th rage is really good. Barbarian 7 is absolutely excellent, and generally underrated. Winning initiative is really important for actually presenting yourself as a tank. I have seen my fair share of barbarians go low on initiative only to get absolutely pummeled before they can activate rage resistances. And then the ability also helps you close the distance and actually deliver decent turn 1 dpr. There's nothing sadder than a barbarian throwing a single javelin turn 1 because they can't get in range. And then you have the ASI at 8 which is always great. So yeah, anywhere from 5-8 levels of barbarian is very justifiable. Then you go rogue and start stacking sneak attack on your reckless attacks. That's about it. Keep it simple.
Regarding the Double-Bladed Scimitar, it’s worth noting it’s not really a standard weapon option, so a DM might disallow it as a pick in their campaign. Honestly, I think the rogue/barbarian combo is overrated and power-gamey. Sneak Attack is only going to average 3.5 extra damage per turn, whereas using a d12 weapon instead of a d8 will deal an average of 2 damage extra damage per attack, coming in slightly ahead. Sneak Attack pulls ahead at later levels, but by the time you’re at the 5-8 stage “later levels” take a good bit of time to come around, assuming the campaign isn’t wrapping up by that point. Really, if you want a dip to give a Barbarian a shot in the arm, I’d just go with two levels of Fighter for Action Surge and a Fighting Style.
The multiclass isn't all about the dpr. Half of dipping rogue is about making your barb better at out of combat stuff with expertise and expanded proficiencies.
If you just want dpr all you have to do is play a barbarian with great weapon master. That blows barb/rogue out of the water. But not everyone has the same fantasy, and barb-rogue makes using a one hander, dual wielding, or dbs more potent.

Let's see if we can make this work: Stats: You rolled stats aren't good enough for this MC right now so we need to get the most we can out of our race choice: Race: Half-Elf STR: 14+2 DEX: 14 CON: 11+1 INT: 9 WIS: 12+1 CHA: 11
Level 1: Barbarian, with our weak CON we need as much help as we can with HP and we've got plenty of skills from Half-Elf. We'll be dual wielding shortswords for this build. Level 2-5: Barbarian - Totem Barb for resistances, Danger Sense, an ASI for Tough (so we have the HP to make the resistances worthwhile even after we MC), and Extra Attack. Level 6 : Rogue - Sneak attack we can synergize with Reckless, some Expertise for out of combat utility. Level 7-11 : Ranger - Fighting Style for Two Weapon Fighting, another Expertise and some out of combat utility spells, Gloomstalker for that first round nova. ASI to bump our STR. Level 12-20 : Rogue - ASI to max out our STR, and another to pick up Resilient (Wis) or Resilient (Dex), Uncanny Dodge to make us super tanky, I'd probably go Swashbuckler - a handful of 1st level spells are irrelevant at this level, Swashbuckler ensures we get our Sneak Attack even when we don't want to Reckless and gives a ton of maneuverability. Get as many sneak attack dice as we can, and Evasion is sweet with our Adv on Dex saves.
