Looking for ideas for the university D&D Club I am the advisor for I came across the RealmSmith Champion of the Realms series. A battle arena 1v1 for 5e D&D. Using the following rules, what would you bring to the fight? And what would be your theme song for heading into the arena?
8 Level character with 1 Uncommon Magic Item (Green) and 1 Basic Healing Potion Use Fixed HP with Standard Array
Each fight is five rounds of D&D combat in an 80'x80' arena.
Up to 8 Hit Dice can be spent between rounds to replenish Hit Points. Once they’re spent, they’re gone for the rest of the match.
Conditions reset after each round.
Effects remain for the duration of the effect or until removed.
If a combatant is reduced to 0 hp, the round ends. If this occurs to the same combatant in 3 different rounds, the match ends in a TKO (Technical Knock Out).
If a combatant starts a round with 0 HP and has no Hit Dice left to spend, the match ends in a KO (Knock Out).
If the match goes the distance (all 5 rounds without a KO or TKO), the DM decides the winner based on Roleplay, Battlefield Strategy, and Damage Deal
I have been having fun building arenas and a couple of contestants if I get to participate, but what would your champion be? And my 80's heritage would strongly influence my Fight Song!
Blue dragonborn Conquest Paladin, with adamantine full plate. Sword and board; Heavy Armor Master and a Strength ASI. My walk-on tune is Princes of the Universe by Queen.
Not sure if you wanted a specific level but Ranger Gloom Stalker 9th lvl(Tasha's version preferably), Assassin 9th lvl(2014), Fighter lvl2. Hand Crossbow(Crossbow Expert, Sharpshooter(2014)

It was listed in the original post, but 8th level is where the Battle Arena happens!

Hm. Sorcerer? Kite with Ray of Frost. Magic Missile for damage. Add some Misty Step for quick escapes. Would that work? Oh, and we need music? Five Minutes Alone, I guess.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
Hexblade Warlock -2 + Sorcerer -6 + Harengon with the Alert feat. Quicken one of: Web, Max earthen hand, or Hold Person depending on your enemy then blast them with EB (optionally with repelling blast). With Harengon + Alert you should almost always get to go first. Music, I don't know... Dirty Deeds done Dirt Cheap?

Nothing like the Young Brothers in 1976 bringing the Heat! Nobody could fling hair like Angus!
Gonna go with a Dwarf Ranger level 8, Crossbow Expert, Great Weapon Master all 2024 version with Mastery in Maul and Heavy Crossbow, subclass however would be Drakewarden (Copper, Acid). Stats would be Srt 18 Dex 14 Con 12 Int 8 Wis 15 Cha 8, Half Plate armor, Magic Initiate: Druid as an origin feat taking Druidcraft, Message, and Healing Word. Expertise in Perception, with Athletics, Survival, Nature, and Stealth to round out his skills. Archery Fighting Style.
Spells: Cantrips = Druidcraft, Message, Thaumaturgy Level 1 = Cure Wounds, Healing Word, Absorb Elements, Goodberry, Level 2 = Aid, Lesser Restoration, Pass Without Trace, and Spike Growth with Hunter's Mark from Favored Enemy.
Magic Item: Winged Boots
Tactics: Try to take advantage of the 40ft fly speed me and the Drake would have, using Healing Word to get the Drake back up if she goes down early, would be nice to get into melee for topple attack flanked with Drake and then both fly up and repeat if it could be set up that way. For grounded targets would distract them with the Drake and set up Spike Growth using mostly the Heavy Crossbow to push them back into it if that could be set up.
A monk with alert. I go first, you are stunned, I go again, you are stunned again, there’s the fight. Though I guess with the changes to stunning strike, this gets harder. So, maybe someone who can cast hold person, or maybe banishment could be comical. But raw damage is not the way, when someone has no allies, you win with action economy and taking turns from them. So alert or other ways to boost initiative is really where it’s at. Because in PvP, and with a turn based system, winning initiative and getting to pull off your nova attack (or stunlock them) before the other person pulls off their nova attack is the most import roll. That way, no matter what, you always have one more turn than they do.
For a song, maybe Wu Tang, Protect Ya Neck. Cause once they fail the hold person save, they’ll need to.

Song: Dam That River by Alice In Chains
Thanks for all the detail! I can actually picture the fight with this contestant! Well done!
Do the participants reset to starting locations after each round?
Warrior of Shadows Monk / Bladesinger Wizard, Headband of Intellect
No music. She's insane and only hears tunes in her head.
Yes, conditions are reset, so no ongoing poison, etc. The players freeze where they are on the board and resume the next round from their current positions. Concentration spells and effects carry over between rounds.

Devious build, but could be very effective!

Purple Dragonborne Totem barbarian for high HP and resistance against every damage while raging. Also high CHA & STR due to being a Dragonborne.
I'm taking a break to focus on IRL stuff. Please don't think bad of me. I'm terribly sorry for any inconveniences this hiatus of mine brings about.
Let me guess, Jimi Hendrix "Purple Haze" as your walk on song?
You know it!

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

I'm enjoying the mix of Contestants and the pairing of music to set the tone!
