What are the options for a ranger for overcoming the different damage reductions and immunities? I am planning on playing a ranger for the first time and could use some good tips :-)
That's a bit vague, any specific kind of damage resistance or immunity?
Magical weapons are typically the way to go for physical damage resistance, silvered weapons work on some creatures (lycanthropes mainly.) They could multi-class or magic initiate druid to get Shillelagh or Magic Stone to bypass physical resistance early game.
The Elemental Adept feat is pretty much the only way to overcome elemental resistance with spells that I can think of.
Sometimes the DM will place +(1/2/3) arrows/bolts on enemies or in loot which are "consumable" magic items that rangers may use. Magical bows also work for overcoming such resistances at range.
If your DM allows, it you can start as Forge Cleric for 1 level, then switch to Ranger. Forge Clerics get to enchant one piece of armor or a weapon as magical between long rests.
The best way to counter immunities and resistances is to actually play your character and develop strategic plans from your experiences in battle. To prepare for every possibility ahead of time is pretty meta-gamey(not a real word but a definite sentiment).
I would hope that your DM sets up challenges that you can figure out how to beat when you encounter something that requires special damage types.

Thanks! I was hoping to find some ways beside magic weapons...but not much luck then i’m afraid.
