I agree that Kensei is a good option, but I also have always thought that the Battle Master is a better fit for Samurai than the actual Samurai subclass. A skilled tactician that takes control of the field of battle is a better example of what a Samurai was IMHO.

Yeah. The Samurai subclass is more akin to the traditional stereotype of Samurais from fiction. Not that it's neccesarily a bad thing, just different. The Samurai subclass also works really well for the classic (and classical) hero character of Greek mythology. :)
Wow, awesome! A samurai/hexblade sounds an amazing RP chance! A samurai whose clan got wiped out and turns to a demon to get the power avenge them(maybe not too original but sounds really fun)! Nodachi is gonna be my weapon of choice.. Any other tips on combat strategy? Better to make it samurai3/hexblade until the end or the other way around about level distribution?
If you go heavy on the charisma this could be a solid build. The extra curse is handy dandy for some big damage on tough enemies. If you are going more for a strength build with heavy armor, I would suggest a different pact like the Fiend for some life 'steal' on a kill as the hex blade abilities would be partially useless. If you wanted a touch of healing the celestial is good as well. Even Lurker of the Deeps could be a fun UA to try.
As for patrons, the Hexblade could definitely be a cursed family heirloom that could grow in power as it consumes the souls of those you slay. Fiend could be some kind of powerful Oni or a more evil Kami spirit of some sort. Celestial could be an ancestor that reached enlightenment and watches over his descendants on their quest for great deeds and eventual enlightenment. The Depths could be done as an Orochi type creature (not a perfect match but could be some solid flavor to play).
