I don’t think there’s official rules either describing the eggs of various creatures, or how to hatch them or how long they hatch. It all going to be up to your DM.
Just going to throw out the thought that you DM might be more than a little upset with you trying to use the internet to obtain in-game knowledge from out-of-game sources.
So we found a large white 3 foot egg and I believe it is a dragon but I'm not sure, help?
If so, how could I keep the dragon and how could I hatch the egg?
Honestly, these are questions that should be handled in-game by your character, not out-of-game by you. Perhaps the DM will have you roll Intelligence checks, possibly either Nature or Arcana depending on the type of creature. Maybe you'll have to find a book about hatching eggs of rare creatures, or locate someone with that knowledge.
It could be a Giant Owl/Eagle/Vulture egg. It could be anything your DM determines.
Also, someone above said there aren't rules for egg incubation, and stuff like that. There is a bit of information scattered through modules, like Out of the Abyss, Dead in Thay, and I believe Princes of the Apocalypse.

This. The egg is a good roleplaying opportunity for the party.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

Yes, that's a good point.
Although what is in the egg and how to hatch it is completely determined by the DM.
If it were me (and it's not), soft-scrambled or balut.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.

Could be a Roc Egg, I think they are valuable and have heard stories of those being found in people's games.
This sounds like a great question to ask in-game. Does anyone in your party have the researcher feature or is there some sage you can ask?
What are you going to use to incubate the egg?
