OK, this is unlimited food on ONE spell slot: You cast awaken on the cow so it can attune to the ring of regeneration and then you just hack off its love handles for sirloin every day, plus it will fully grasp the existential horror of its own situation!

Truly evil. Also, I'm not sure I've ever seen that spell before. Shows you how much I look at the Druid's list...

Blood Frenzy. The quipper has advantage on melee attack rolls against any creature that doesn't have all its hit points.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage.
I think we're getting closer though. What if they turned into a swarm of crickets? What if you just left him a druid, but got him a ring of regeneration. Then you could cut off a leg a day.
I thought transforming into a swarm was not allowed by RAW. Has that changed?

Wow, and I thought my idea was already borderline evil. This just takes the cake!
This situation already includes having a druid, but saving one measly lvl 1 spell slot is worth more than just preparing goodberry and be done with it?
Normally, I would agree with you, but I'm playing in a hard-core grim reality rest rules campaign where a long rest is 3 days and a short rest in 8 hours. With that scenario, I want to think of ways to create food without using a spell slot b/c of the long rest problem.

Even with this Goodberries last 24 hours and you get 10 of them, enough for 10 people. Plus, as mentioned, if it is a Land Druid, Natural Recovery allows them to regain half their level in spell slots so they can always recover the 1st level slot in that 8 hour short rest with 16 hours to spare. Assuming you are taking a short rest per day.
Yes, it does involve saving 1 first level spell slot, but cast goodberries right before you rest. The rest of those slots can be used for whatever you want.
That is true. I would say that if they are hiring a Druid for this reason (depending on their level) it wouldn’t be too hard to ask said Druid to save a few spell slots for just this reason. It’s why they hired them.
If they are hiring the Druid to fight and heal then it becomes more difficult.
Have to remember it started off hiring the Druid to cut his head off so saving spell slots isn’t too much of a stretch.
It's up to the dm to choose which subclass works best on your druid buddy, mostly they use the druid stats and no they can't transform into a swarm. following the druid wildeshape ability.
you want to find food without spending a spellslot, you can either have a pc have the outlander background, a pc playing the ranger class whenever the forage for food. is that simple ask your players to roll a simple survial check to see if they can find some decent food like berries, leaves, wild game and etc. you don't have to go all the way to hire a druid and make them wildshape into a animal and cutting it's head with a vorpal weapon. your druid will still be dead no matter what, vorpal weapon has a special ability that decapitated on a nat 20.

What if none of the party members are Druids? If the party is hiring a Druid, then we would have no control over what subclass the NPC would be.
