Your not really describing WHY Misty Step is overpowered at 2nd level. Your just describing a desire to make Wizard weaker. Misty Step is on other spell lists as well.
If we look at the effects of Misty Step in relation to other spells, It's probably perfect where it is now. At 3rd level we have Thunderstep which, while an action, teleports you 4 times the distance and deals damage. I don't think a Bonus Action cast time makes them equal. And if we have to buff Misty Step for it to compete, what was the purpose of moving it up?
I'm just having a lot of fun imagining the many ways your could reskin Misty Step. Does your spellcaster turn into a flock of doves that then reform into you, picking a feather from your hair? Is it you falling backward into your own shadow and then emerging from somewhere else? Is it a mini-dimension door portal (teal side and orange side, of course) that you just skip through? A beam of light dematerialise you and reconstitute you at your destination?
The Personalizing Spells section of Tasha's was a really tickling read :D
Oh, uh. Yeah, I don't have anything meaningful to add to the debate. Don't mind me. I'll just be here reimagining the new Jump spell for a while. Maybe conjuring these enormous stilts...

Because 2nd level spells become disposable pretty quick so a teleportation effect that useful at 2nd level is too good.
I’m actually pretty happy with the updates to the martials, it finally feels like they are getting somewhere (aside from the monk). The casters, though, I feel like definitely need some work, I was really disappointed that necromancer was not chosen as a wizard subclass, after evocation, that was the most logical one to go with. I feel like the way they could’ve done wizard was you have your classical wizard (blasting spells, shields, that kind of thing) then necromancer or summoner (obviously for summoning things) then mind mage because we definitely should have one (for controlling things and illusions) then, finally, a transfigurations expert for turning things into other things.
I’m gonna make my own thread for this but yeah, those are my thoughts.
Incidentally, which existing post-PHB subclasses do you feel become outdated with the UA7 class changes? Or, at the very least in need of small updates? Are there any new core class features that previously belonged to a subclass?
For instance, I noticed that Undead Warlock has Bane on its expanded spell-list, but that's a new baseline warlock spell with UA7. A small thing, certainly, but something that'll want a footnote change in some document.

That’s what I’m talking about! Very Mortal Kombat styled teleports

Except now Warlocks always know their expanded list, rather just being able to learn it, so whether or not it's a core spell doesn't matter.
That's true, Acey! What I meant to say was, the patron spells (previously called Expanded Spells), seem to pretty consistently - with very few exceptions - add spells that aren't already on the Warlock's existing spell list. Just a quick look at UA7, the only repeats were... Misty Step for Archfey and Hunger of Hadar for Great Oldie? I might have missed something, but the greater majority are spells that expand upon the repertoire.
But, eh, as you said, maybe it's not a big deal. :)
Misty step isn't broken. It's 60 feet of movement for a spell slot and an action/reaction/bonus action whatever. That"s still most ranged weapons range and most spell ranges.
The wizard is NOT extra squishy and that bullshit belief has to end. ALL CASTERS get 1d6 HP. ALL CASTERS have armour restrictions except.for.clerics.
And for perspective, rangers and rogues have about the same level of restrictions on armor, but DO NOT have shield spells and magic armor spells to help them out. Instead they get to roll a d8 which AT BEST gives them 2 more HP.
So whomever likes to keep mentioning how "squishy" casters are really needs to stop.

That's very cool. The problem is that with your limited spell slots, you will never cast many of those spells. It doesn't matter if you always have them prepared.
It's curious because in my opinion they have done a good job with the subclasses (like these always prepared spells), but lazy and cowardly with the core of the class.

The thing is they did overhaul the core class significantly the last time, but they retreated to the 2014 version (mostly), presumably because of player feedback.
Definitely. And I suspect that with the subclasses they are daring to experiment a little more, because they fear less the reaction of the fan.
Now, which old subclass have you really wanted to love, but something about it always stopped you from going that route? And how would you change it using the UA7 format style?
(Formant AND style? Is that reduntant? Eh, details!)

I like the Celestial Warlock, but Hexblade had armor. With Lightly Armored as a feat accessible through Lessons of the First Ones, and Hex Warrior being rolled into the PotB, Celestial becomes almost the default option.
That's okay, Bob! Just edit the post and we'll pretend we didn't notice :)
Except I did quote Bob. There's no shame in making mistakes as long as you admit to them.
Lol... Chaos gets it.
If I make a mistake a generally leave it, and especially if someone catches it before I do. Editing it out makes a mess of things and I'm not a proud person.
Do you enjoy the UA7 take on Celestial patron? It didn't feel all that much different to me from the XGE version. Would you have done anything differently with it?

Eh, Misty Step prevents casters from using levelled spells that turn so I still think of that as a win as a DM.
I think general spelllot progression is off though. 2nd level shouldn't double your spellslots.
As its usually only used in dire situations where the monster was putting real pressure on the wizard I'm not sure its a win as a DM.

God damn it! I started to question it after I posted it and forgot to doublecheck.
Point still stands that it's not a huge difference like it was when it was 1d4.
Definitely. And I suspect that with the subclasses they are daring to experiment a little more, because they fear less the reaction of the fan.

But, yeah, oof. 3.5 wizard flashbacks. Those d4 hit dice!
Ssh! It can be our secret!
