I've seen a lot of people say that the WMS is fine outside of being left behind with not getting the extra spells the other subclasses get, but honestly? It's being left behind almost as bad as draconic.
Like with innate sorcery, it basically oversteps into tides of chaos territory.
Sure, tides gives you advantage on every d20 as opposed to only attack rolls, but... still, it feels kinda bad to have it overstep into, what makes the wild magic sorcerer good in the first place.
Like why would I use it to give myself advantage when I'm already using innate sorcery and getting extra benefits already? Just as a wild magic surge button?
Like the whole idea is to risk it in exchange for the advantage, it was a great feature, but if it's now purely as a surge activator, as much as we love surges, it's just pointless.
I'm also not sure how I feel about spell bombardment just being a "Cast magic missile" or "recover SP". I guess it's technically better than before, but it feels extremely boring in comparison. They should've just buffed the 2014 version, like adding more die, or maybe giving you crits for 19-20 like some other subclasses get, at least something more "chaotic".
Really the ONLY things WMS is getting a buff to bend luck (2 SP for it was ridiculous) and the fact that it's written that the player gets to roll for the surges and tides are instant surges. Which is a non-change really since 99.9% of people already played it like that, so while I appreciate the fact that it's now RAW, it's not like we WMS players are getting anything out of it.
And I know WMS isn't a power class, I don't expect it to be or anything, I think it's absolutely one of the best subclasses as is, but it doesn't deserve to have one of it's main features diluted by the whole class and it's capstone be made so boring, like worse imo than what people thought it was before.
