I recently got back into D&D after a long break and its interesting because this new update is happening very soon. I read all the Unearthed Arcana PDFs and number 7 reverted the spell lists back to being class based. What spell list would the Bard use? The standard 2014 PHB spell list? I understand the playtest is over but I was just trying to understand what they had planned for this class.
We will know on Sept 17. Or Sept 3 if you pre-order. Otherwise, we don’t know what they’ll do with the spell lists. Seems like they are returning to class-based lists, which will likely be updated for 2024. Likely also subclasses will expand on those lists in some if not all cases.
Maybe I didn't ask the correct question. Has the playtest Bard been basically upended by UA7 if you wanted to try playing as one currently? Are you supposed to ignore UA7 and use UA6 as is with the Divine, Primal and Arcane lists? I wasn't around when these were published so I've had a lot of difficulty in understanding how UA7 was intended to be used.

Spell lists were part of the rules glossary, and in that case the old glossary was tossed out when a new one was released. The last we saw, all the classes were back to using their current spell lists in addition to any additional spells granted by class features and/or the current glossary.

The UA playtest were intended to use the current (2014) PHB rules, unless stated otherwise. So once the Arcane/Divine/Primal lists were abandoned, the expectation was that the Bard would use the 2014 Bard spell list (plus a few new spells, such as Starry Wisp,). Once the new 2024 PHB is released, the list will be in there.
Presumably, the new classes will also be able to use spells listed for their class in older supplements, such as Xanathar’s Guide and Tasha’s Cauldron (with their DM’s consent).
