In the 2014 phb Bear Totem got you resistance to all damage types except psychic, in UA 7 they got reduced down to pick two damages except force and psychic. I have it on good authority that the number of resistances in the final product landed somewhere in the middle of those two. Seeing how they are trying to be more friendly to new players and damage types aren't common knowledge my first thought was is that is probably going to be a list of pre chosen damage types (There is precedent for this in the Paladin aura that grants certain resistances).
What damage types make sense for a barbarian? Damages that are related to conditions that require a Con save make sense. But this a subclass about tapping into different animals and by extension nature. The nature cleric has an ability that allows it to use its reaction to apply resistances to element damage: Fire, Cold, Acid, Thunder, and Lightning. This isn't a bad list and the more I think about the more it makes sense. If it ends being less than five I think they will still come from that list. I could be wrong but I think it's a solid theory.
