Has anyone noticed that except for the Battlesmith all the subclasses for the Artificer start with A. I'm renaming the Battlesmith to the Armiger just for this in my campaigns.
I am preparing a character for a new Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign. This character will be a Triton warlock/Artificer eventually. Still debating whether to go warlock or artificer at 1st level . . . probably artificer.
There are certain abilities that the Crossbow Expert feat has that the Repeating Shot infusion does not (i.e. ability to use a range weapon within 5 feet of a target and the ability to use the hand crossbow as a bonus action with taking the Attack action). The Repeating Shot infusion also have abilities that the Crossbow Expert feat does not (i.e. turns the weapon into a +1 weapon and requires no ammunition). It is up to the player to weigh the pros and cons of both before deciding.
Personally, for the alchemist i would just replace Homunculus with a special potion of your design or at least something else. I played it for a improve session i did with 2 of my friends and honestly? I just spat acid, i almost NEVER used ANY of the other abilities. it just felt clunky and really useless at times, also felt like (at lower levels) it was the only ability i had besides spells.
This potion would be either a healing, a combative or utility. The healing one would be supportive and quell the need of people who want the supportive alchemist, combat will be either damaging or (probably better) buff your allies attacks and saves, Or a utility one that would buff something like skill checks or grant a flying speed? Notice how we can just take what some of the Homunculus does and just put it in a potion? (I'm spit balling here, these are just ideas for what each of these potions could do, feel free to reply with better ideas there are a million of them i'm sure. just keep to the original 3 types of potions and add a few extra if you want)
These potions would get better the more you levels you put into Artificer, like the original alchemist but only not so OP. I also think the Artillerist needs this for its turret, that way its like you are learning how to improve your special thing (Potion, Turret, Iron defender/Iron Defence Armour and Archivists... Magic computer) the more you adventure. Its a tad bit more realistic since you would obviously be trying to up your power to be better against every foe ahead.

alternatively you could just get both and be the best crossbow shot in Galifar
Huh, looks like WotC DID bring me a birthday gift after all, lol!
In seriousness, I do like the additions. They may need a little tweaking, but overall I think the new subclasses make sense and I really like the Repeating Shot and the Repulsion Shield infusions. One thing I am curious about though: it seems that a number of damaging spells are finding their way into the core spell list. Anyone's thoughts on that?
I personally feel that all direct damaging spells (with the exception of spells like Absorb Elements, Arcane Weapon, and the various Smite spells) should be removed from the Artificer. I see the Artificer as a person who designs and builds magical item, and provides support to his party, not someone utilizing offensive spells (Artillerist expanded spell list excluded).

This provides me with immense amounts of joy.
You should also have any players who want to play Artificers give their character a name that starts with the letter A.

Unfortunately, I chose the name: Calypso . . . :(

I'm waiting for the new archetypes to get released on DND Beyond, then I'm making a Kobold Artificer Battle Smith, with a Guard Drake iron defender.
Aalastar the Aasimar Archaeologist Artificer (Armiger) with Aarakas the Artificial Attack Animal.
Noted Proficiencies Arcana, Alchemist supplies
Infusions: Alchemy Jug
Spells: Acid Splash, Arcane Weapon
Yeah this is going to be awesome
Yeah, that's gonna be a solid A.
Now, are his primary weapons going to be axes and arbalests?
You bet.
And you best use Acid and Alchemist's Fire as well...

Does anyone know how long it's going to take for the new archetypes and infusions to be added to DND Beyond?

I don't know. Direct damage spells should be in the Artificer's repertoire but maybe limited to the Artillerist .
Booming Blade & Green flame blade should be among our cantrips though.

Agreed, I wasn't saying that Repeating Shot replaced Crossbow Expert, I was saying it was a viable alternative to provide choices for an Artificer.
