I played one for a one off session a couple of weeks ago and I had a blast with him! I loved combining the Cleric and Sorcerer spell lists with one character, it gave me a ton of flexibility in a group with only 3 PC's.
I went with the Lucky feat and I maxed out my Charisma.
I enjoyed the Cure Wounds spell and the 6th level Sunbeam spell. Other than them and Flame Strike I mostly picked Sorcerer spells, but I fell in love with Sunbeam against undead!
We ran into a lot of undead, but even if we hadn't that spell lasts for 10 rounds so it's a great spell!
The Lucky feat is one of the best feats ever! I love it and I'm a huge fan! Being able to re-roll 3 d20's after seeing the initial roll every long rest is huge and is worth much more than ASI to me.
Well, I'm not sure this is the Favored Soul you wanted to hear about, but I did play one of the original Favored Souls from the very first Unearthed Arcana during Curse of Strahd. A silver Dragonborn Favored Soul. I picked the Life Domain for his bonus spells. He seemed about even with the rest of the party.
Me? For the original Favored Soul (released in the very first Unearthed Arcana), at first level, you picked one Cleric Domain, and added all of the domain spells from that domain to your list of spells known. They did not count against the number of spells known, which bumped up your spells known list. Life Domain gave Cure Wounds, Bless, Spiritual Weapon, Lesser Restoration, Revivify, Beacon of Hope, Guardian of Faith, Death Ward, Raise Dead, and Mass Cure Wounds.
For my other spells, I went with Shield, Disguise Self*, Phantasmal Force (fun to twin and use to get enemies to attack each other), Haste (great for twinning), Fly, Fireball, Greater Invisibility (we had an Assassin), Telekinesis, and I forget the rest of the list. Telekinesis is very versatile, which is what a sorcerer wants from their spells. Haste I typically put on both the Paladin and myself (the DM let me fire off two cantrips a turn with that), and between my armor and Shield, I was able to be slightly tankier than most casters. This particular character had been trained by an elf who had been friends with my wizard from Out of the Abyss, who had to function as a part time tank for the party, which he did at least as well as the paladin at times.
* We started our run of Curse of Strahd in a homebrewed campaign set in Faerun 20 years after Rise of Tiamat, where all things dragon were seen as evil, so this spell was something nice for my silver Dragonborn to have.
I am. We're taking a bit of a hiatus atm cuz summers are hectic for our group. We're only at level 2. I spent a long damn time thinking about my build and if all goes to plan, which I'm sure it wont, I'll have the ultimate gish! I'm currently a level 1 fighter and level 1 FS sorc. Yes I know I should've put at least 5 into fighter first before multiclassing but I just wanted some spell fun! The next 5 will go into fighter for sure.. End goal is 12 fighter 8 FS sorc, but who knows if we'll ever reach 20. Eventually though, Full plate and greatsword with Haste spell, and Shield always in the back pocket means, 4 attacks per round, 20 baseline AC with option of 25 if I need, as well as all the other awesomeness that Haste provides. And having Con as one of fighters saving throws means I won't be losing Haste that easy. Couple all that with quickened spell and I can cast a variety of spells as a bonus action and then still get my 4 greatsword attacks as well!!!
I came into the Mists of Barovia around level 7 or so (it was my second character, the first having died to Baba Lysaga) and I played him until level 10. After the boss fight with Count Strahd, one of the DM's additions to the Strahd campaign resulted in a "rocks fall, everyone dies". I felt kinda sad, as I'd put a lot of work into that character's backstory. For the 5e campaigns I play, I like to have all my characters connected in a six degrees of separation way, and this was the first character to start that tradition.

I'm thinking of playing one and I would like to consult on appropriate builds.

Cool. What level did you play? Care to share the sheet?

It was over powered. We were all 12th level. The sheet is history unfortunately, I'm sorry. But it's a fun class to play.

What were your spell choices? Do you remember? Did you go with ASI or feats? Got any cool synergetic items?

Did you run into a lot of undead?
Is lucky really that handy?

I'm playing a low magic game. Magic items are hard to come by. So we prize our ASI and feats need to be carefully considered.

Can you elaborate a bit about spell selection?

I would like to see that build. It sounds quite OP.
