Now I have started to work on some arrows Arcane Archers could use for utility, because I think that just like any figher this subclass has almost none, but it would deserve it. For a day I have been stuck on a idea of grappling hook/zipline. I found that I have a lot of troubles making it neither too underwhelming or too strong.
Any ideas from the brains of the community? I know that others have tried to make new Arcane Shots in the past, but most of them are still only combat focused and I'd like to change that.
Tethering Shot: You imbue an arrow with dunamancy magic to bind you to it. If you choose to target a surface with your attack, the arrow secures itself to the surface for 1 minute or until you use this option again. A faint, incorporeal thread extends between the arrow and you. While this thread is present, you can move up, down, and across the targeted surface, while leaving your hands free. Moreover, when a spell or other effect that you can see targets an area you are in, you can use your reaction to be pulled up to 30 feet towards the arrow, potentially moving you out of the area of effect.
Alternatively, if you target a creature with this arrow you both become tethered together by the incorporeal thread for 1 minute or until you use this option again. While tethered this way you are both considered to be grappled, the target cannot move away from you, and you cannot move away from it. The target can use its action to try and break the thread by making a Strength check opposed by your Arcane Shot DC, ending the effect early on a success. You can also end the effect early on your turn using your bonus action.
At 18th level, you can choose to tether up to 6 willing creatures to the surface or target creature when you use this feature. When tethered to a surface, each friendly creature gains the same benefits listed above. When tethered to a creature, the target must break each thread for each other creature individually using an action each time. Each friendly creature is similarly restricted by their thread, unless they choose to break it early as a bonus action.

I really liek this, but how exactly should the "While this thread is present, you can move up, down, and across the targeted surface" part work?

I tried to use the same language as the boots of spider climb, but basically as long as the arrow is "active" you can move freely along the surface it is attached to. There may be a better way to word it though

This isn’t bad for a climbing line arrow but what about for a way to move between buildings etc creating something like a tight rope (even if you 4 limb crawl across it not walk across.)

Let me give it a shot (cue laugh track)
