Making a new alternate character in 5e. Our DM wants them to be 5th level. Could use some help choosing status and feats that would fit this character's backstory and current state of being.
Quick overview: Character's name is Errumo. He is based on the Shugoki from the game For Honor.
Age: 40
Race: Human
Backstory: Born into a poor family and raised as a guardian of his home village. When he turned 40 his home was besiged by the warlord Shien and seven elite samurai. Rather than stay and fight Errumo ran like a coward. He fled the Islands of Meyo (Basically Japan) and ended up in Sundabad within the kingdom of Leipzig (Basically Europe) where he became great friends with a man named Angus McGlaclan (Scottish). Errumo has been traveling with Angus. His ultimate goal is to kill Shien and the seven samurai which destroyed his home and to restore honor to his name.
Could use some help choosing things like status allocation and feats.

Edit: Forgot to mention his weapon of choice is the Kanabo
Playing 2e level 2 LG fighter follows church of Helm. Non weapon proficiencies in blind fighting and Bowery. Specialization in bow. Made a bow of strength. DM asked if I wanted to transcend to a Paladin. Never played fighter or Paladin before. How do I play it properly
Personally, I love For Honor. So make sure he weighs several hundred pounds. Now there are several ways to do this. If you wish to make the roleplay based Shugoki, then go to subheader 1. If you want to do stat based Shugoki, then go to subheader 2.
Subheader 1: Roleplay
To roleplay, you will want to have a single level in monk for the unarmed strike (Headbutt and Demon's Embrace). Next, you want wooden armor, so something along the lines of modified medium armor. Next, take the greatclub weapon, and the great weapon fighting style. For ASI, choose great weapon master to simulate the charged unblockable.
Subheader 2: Stats
Slightly different: More dexterity. You want to take levels in fighter, monk, and barbarian. Specifically level 5 monk, level 1 barbarian, and level X fighter. Then have half plate which is the heaviest medium armor. You want barbarian for rage, and can't rage with heavy armor. Level 5 monk has stunning strike, so you can headbutt to stun. Next, greatclub, and ASI's are as follows:
Great weapon master (For charged unblockables)
Medium armor master (For more AC)
Tough (More hp)
Grappler (Hug)
I couldn't figure out a way to gain health on the hug, but this is my best attempt at shugi. Does this help?

I’m making a character for AD&D 1e who is a multiclass fighter/magic-user/Thief. My confusion is with the Age allotment for the races. He is a Half-Grey Elf. When I started building him I was asked to build a character on short notice by the same person who asked me to join his group for another campaign that was just coming up. The DM couldn’t come so I went from the 5e character I was building to building one according to 1e. I will admit I got lost between 1e and 2e as for as creation goes. But because it was on such short notice I just grabbed at things I thought would be fun to play with. Like being a Gladiator and being a Half-Grey Elf. Now according to PHB a Half-Elves lifespan is on average 185 years. For the Lower Caste elves that’s true. As you climb the hierarchy of Elven lineage it changes dramatically. High Elves can live as long as 1500 years. The Grey Elves on the other hand can live upto 500 years longer.
Placing the Elf as the variable in “mating” (as l see no way it would be voluntary for some of the Casts of Elven Hierarchy) then the age of the Half-Elf should follow an appropriate division of traits according to the gene mix. If you compare High Elves and Grey Elves you will see that a High Elves average Lifespan is 1500 years. Now look at the Grey Elves in comparison they live from 100 to 500 years longer than the High Elves on average.
So my question is how would properly calculate the average lifespan of a Half-Grey Elf or A Half-High Elf for that matter? So how would you determine the expected lifespan of a Half-Grey Elf?
Grey Elves
Grey elves built the old elven cities which now stand abandoned or were given up to other races as they moved through. They are more given to intellect than other elves, but physically weaker. They practice the oldest elven arts, but hide from the eyes of younger, shorter lived races in their isolated settlements. Grey elves are typically reclusive, especially when surrounded by hostile human settlements, but some grey elf cultures are militant in nature. In Sunndi and the Vast Swamp, Grey elves are unusually aggressive to outsiders. They are thinner than high elves, and have either silver hair and amber eyes or pale golden hair and violet eyes. The latter sort are generally called faeries. They wear complex gowns and flowing robes, favouring clothes the colour of pure driven snow, the noon day sun, silver and gold, with accessories of polished leather, and contrasting colours and jewels. Their cloaks are often deep blue or purple. For battle grey elves favour plate or chainmail, with winged helmets. They live beyond the age of 1,500 years, sometimes reaching 2,000 years. They're known to use Hippogriffs or even Griffins as mounts.
Appear in: 1e; Monster Manual 1 (1977), Dungeon Masters Guide (1979), World of Greyhawk (Boxed Set) (1983), Unearthed Arcana (1985). 2e; Complete Book of Elves (1992), Greyhawk: The Adventure Begins (1998). 3.5- Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (2000), Monster Manual, (2003).

Assuming that a, a Kanabo is a non-Finesse melee weapon and b, you want heavy armor, prioritize Strength above all else. Constitution comes second.
For your Martial Archetype, I recommend Champion or Samurai.

I love roleplaying, message me so we can set something up.
I talk everything D&D, message me for questions, chat, arguements, or roleplay!
I'm glad people are still replying to this yeast later. Both are great build ideas though, thanks for the ideas!
I should probably start looking at thread dates.
