if I’m a wild magic sorcerer lvl 18 and a second lvl fighter ( like any normal human : ) ) and my DM makes me roll on the wild magic surge table, since there are 50 options, and controlled chaos let’s me ‘roll with advantage’ on it, there is a 4% chance I get the one called : maximize the damage on all your damaging spells for the next minute. ( it’s somewhere on there but I’m too lazy to check ).
Quickened meteor storm, that’s 240 dmg, and from the top, most damaging spells, using action surge and another quickened spell.
All this could happen at any time the DM makes me roll on the table, like I’ll wait until I get the one effect, and then start wailing my spells on the nearest enemy to get most damage in a single turn.
granted, if I’m in a castle/ village I’ll destroy the entire camapaign
If you roll a 33-34 then you get this result: Maximize the damage of the next damaging spell you cast within the next minute.
But still, one big meteor swarm maxed out is nothing to sneeze at.
Each time you roll with advantage and score this result you should have an impressive damaging spell ready.

The chances of this happening are so small though, the only time you roll directly on the wild magic surge table is after you spend tides of chaos. Any other time you only roll on the chart after the DM tells you to roll to see if there's a surge which happens on a 1.
Than you need to roll 33-34, and your NEXT damage spell is maxed out.
Such a hail mary, but yes it can do a lot of damage.
Also, just because stuff like this is a pet peeve of mine, if you have a 2% chance of rolling it (50 results 1 roll) doing it twice is not 4%. Your prior roll has no influence on your next roll. In this case its like a 3.8% chance of happening.. Just something that always bugs me from wargaming "well I need to roll a 6 and have 6d6 to get it so I should get it!" nope... thats not how it works
