So, this was just a random thought that came to my head just moments ago.
Devil's Sight grants sight in darkness as if it were normal.
"You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet."
If a person were to be placed in darkness, and this person had Devil's Sight, would they know if they are in darkness?
I guess there are some information that can tell they are in darkness such as being in a forest at night (just look at the moon in the sky) or being trapped in a cube with no visible torches. P.S. Assuming there is no dark vision involved.
I don't think there is a RAW answer for this, but I think a practical answer is to have an area of Darkness appear vaguely translucent, like seeing through an illusion.
Enhanced senses shouldn't make you blind to something that everyone else can see.
Edit: "Can" is also often interpreted to mean a choice, so you could also have Devil's Sight be toggleable. Either a nicitating membrane, or having their eyes replaced by a black void, etc...
If you want to get very technical and pedantic about it...Devil's Sight does nothing for dim light (that's still the domain of darkvision). Some areas of darkness (especially all the natural ones) are bordered by dim light, so you'd see the border.
I mean, I kinda get what you are confused about but there is still darkness that the person can't see through (120 feet.) Its like shining a flash light. The light allows you to clearly see stuff in but beyond its edge of effective luminosity, darkness blankets everything. I do not see why a person with such vision wouldn't understand they are in darkness. After all, there is darkness surrounding them in all directions, with no other source of natural light within viewing distance.

120 ft is a pretty clear limit. If there was any light outside of the 120 ft, the player with Devil sight would notice it go out.
If they were outside, they would notice the stars going out.
