I've been trying to create a magic item for one of my players and I could use some advice on what I have for it so far (if its over powered, under powered ect). It is a magic rapier belonging to this characters ancestor. As the player finds more of his ancestor's equipment (helmet, armor and shield) the sword gains more power. When he finds it first it will act like a Flame Tongue. When he finds the Helmet he can change it from a Flame Tongue to a Frost Brand with a bonus action, also it becomes +1. When he finds the armor he can change it from either of those to something similar to a Staff of Thunder and Lightning, also it becomes +2. Lastly when he gets the shield it gains the effects of Blackrazor (namely the temp hit point effect), also it becomes +3. He can only have one of these effects on at a time and has to use a bonus action to change between them.
The item is also cursed. When he receives it he will be unable to part with it, when he gets the helmet his eyes will glow red (making common people mistrust him), when he gets the armor non-magic light is dimmed within 30ft of him, and when he gets the shield he will age by (20 years? I'm still deciding).
The other equipment he uses will have enchantments on them as well but I'm still thinking of what I'm going to put on those.
