I created a test encounter and grouped some Bandits and a Bandit Captain. Named the group. I love the drag and drop feature, how great and easy is that. But now when I view my encounter, I indeed see the grouped enemies. But when I run the encounter there is no difference? Is that it? Am I missing something? I mean it's cool, and all. But I was thinking it might be for playing a large group as one enemy maybe.
I use it to add all monsters in a given dungeon lvl to an encounter but then group them by room for example. I don't run the encounter in DDB as I run them in my VTT instead.
Just took a look as that was new to me - I am not sure it has a use yet but may be this is some ground work for having 2nd wave groups or something like that.

This has been around for about a year.
