The concept is simple, I have a discord server where on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, I create a battle. I then post a Maximum amount of players, what level characters they should be, and what kind of magic items they should have. Then We just have a players vs DM battle where we all duke it out and see who comes out on top. No backstory, no hassle. The amount of players and character level depend on how hard I deem the encounter to be. Does this sound like a good Idea? Feed Back Appreciated.
It wouldn't be PvP, it would be Players vs DM's Monsters. Like a normal boss battle, but without the hassle of setting it up story wise. No explanation, there's just a dragon, and you're goal is to kill it sorta thing. But I can totally see how PvP would be really difficult, because the players know what the other person is thinking.

Sounds like a cool idea. Keep in mind though that 5e's system is not best for PvP combat, and I guess this will pop out in your server's metagame.

Looks cooler than I assumed then. Good luck
Cool idea, but complicated by the fact that you would need to adjudicate magic items in some manner. Perhaps the DMG has some guidance on this.
I like it. We do “battle arenas” if we are missing too many people and just wanna play some dnd.
You could track the victors week by week and get your name on a wall or list for everyone to see so it’s kinda special if you win.
I have a fight club discord server, but it's pvp/pve with a heavy rp instead of no backstory at all. Not the same, but it kinda fits
