So I'm currently in a group that's playing Tyranny of Dragons. The basic idea is that you have to stop the Cult of the Dragon Queen from summoning Tiamat, the dragon queen. And I was just wondering, as a player, can I switch sides and help the cult summon Tiamat?
If the DM has bought the materials especially for you and is new to the module, it may be better to go through the material in a more planned for way to, potentially, get the most out of it.
Especially if the DM has run it before, a suggestion for a different approach might go down well,
Adventure books are a framework to run a game, and ToD is a 1-15 level adventure following a party trying to stop the cult. If the DM and other players want to homebrew a campaign based on the material in support of the Cult, it could be done, but there's no alternative in the first half at least to do so in any of the adventures options, your DM would have to make a wholly new narrative to do so.
You could potentially betray the narrative toward the end in support of the enemy... but ToD is an especially fatal campaign, so the likelihood your character even exist by the end is small, and unless your entire table is involved, you'll be needing a new table after you derail a campaign that will take maybe a year to complete.

You are in control of your character.
Maybe bring up the question with your DM?
