Can we get a way to add items to the equipment section? Like basic equipment so we aren't just making everything a magic item. Like being able to homebrew in more weapons and armor and what not.
There is no builder but there are custom actions and items which you can make directly on your character sheet. I made a video to talk about these and other sheet customisation options. The video is a bit long but there are chapters so you can easily get to something more relevant - just check description or the pinned comment.

We just use the customisation option to change the name of an existing item which has the same stats as the "new" item.
Yeah but not always the answer. For example, your method won't allow a sword that does 2d8 slashing damage and uses Intelligence as the stat. For stuff like that, ya be needing Custom Actions/Items.

But that would definitely be a magic item, rather than just another mundane weapon.

This still can't be achieved using the Magic Item maker, though. So magic or not, the homebrew maker will not resolve this, nor is there an equivalent you can just add and rename.
