Hey all. Do you think we will be able to create homebrew WM on DDB like we can create homebrew spells and feats? I know from the UA it's only really the Fighter that can chop and change them up but I'm hoping we get the tools to make our own homebrew with it.
Like if we made a magic item that had its own custom WM.
I'm also holding out hope that we'll be getting some more hombrew tools. Like fighting styles. Equipment and vehicles in 2024.
I doubt there's going to be any way to make custom Weapon Masteries. I mean, you can't even really make custom weapons to put them on.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

True there was talk of a big homebrew overhaul a few years ago that's ment to include more options. But since they stopped the dev talks we don't know if its being worked on. On hold or has been scrapped.
Most likely not, unfortunately. I mean they could add soooo many things like, homebrew weapons, books, or just monster abilities! I dont share my hombrew on this site because but I mostly just use it to organize my homebrew monsters. I have so many cool ability ideas but dont want to make an entire creature just to add it. So I just use a word document instead. considering that weapon mastery is already homebrew they probably won't add it because people aren't begging for it-and it even then they still probably wont add it. if you want to make weapon mastery you'll have to find a better site. (tell me your favorites!)
The weapon masteries as is don’t much interact with what the site does. If you use vex, it’s up to you to remember you have advantage, for example. Even if you’re rolling the dice on here, it doesn’t know if you hit, or if you did if you’re attacking the same target. If you use topple, it’s up to you to tell the DM to make a check or fall down. So, it seems like you should be able to add an extra word or something to a weapon description, and it will work just as well as the current masteries, no?
I guess the VTT may be able to incorporate masteries passively, and then it might get tricky. But just dndbeyond, it seems like it should be possible.
As a note, when folks talk about "things from a couple years ago", it really does matter when that was talked about.
Wizards bought DDB in May of 2022, completed general takeover shortly after that, and so have really only had the site as a whole for 18, 19 months.
Something said on the site two years ago was said by people who had different goals, different plans and a different focus and leadership team than WIzards does -- once wizards bought it, and genuinely after about six months from then when they finalized what they were going to do with it, anything said before then is wiped away.
Because Wizards has a completely different set of priorities, goals, and designs.
Blaming them for having different goals from the original team that developed the site is a lot like blaming an earlier DM for the stuff a new DM is doing.

You make a really good point. Since I hadn't heard that it was dropped I assumed it is still on the road map. But that isn't guaranteed. We don't have a window into what's being worked on.
Honnestly I miss the dev talks. It was great to hear what was upcoming.

True. But the design goals should include support for the RAW. All the RAW. General features, supernatural gifts, boons, etc. I can certainly blame both sets of owners for abandoning that.
