Basically I’m curious how you would set up power rankings in the Abyss. The absolute top of the pile would be Demon Princes and Demon Queens, obviously, entities so powerful they might challenge gods depending on the Campaign. But how would you categorize those below that caste? Obviously these ultimate embodiments of Chaotic Evil can vary greatly in power, but I feel there would be certain classifications of unique Demons in between a Demon Prince / Queen and the Molydeus. This is not to imply a hierarchy similar to the Nine Hells. Think about it as assigning a category to storms or earthquakes, but with names and not numbers. While it can be assumed that in Perdition personal power is linked with rank, it’s just as likely that political authority eclipses physical might, to an extent.
For the Nine Hells, you have Asmodues (the Overlord and King of Hell), the Lords of the Nine (Arch-dukes and duchesses), the Dukes of Hell, the lesser nobility that serve them directly, and then the purely Militaristic System, capstoned by the Eight Dark Ministers. What might be a similar breakdown of Demons?
I’m plotting out the Cosmology of my own Campaign and trawling for ideas and inspiration. Planes Hopping will be a major focus of the game once the players have graduated from their Prime Material sandbox. With luck Planescape will fill in a lot of blanks, but I’m preparing myself in case that falls flat.
It comes down largely to individual prowess and ability. The Abyss lacks formal hierarchy due to being a Chaotic plane, so your standing is based largely on what other demons are in the immediate vicinity and whether or not you can beat or intimidate them into following your orders. So, for example, a random Glabezru could order whatever Vrocks he finds around, but wouldn't necessarily have a dedicated team of Vrocks that were "his" on a permanent basis.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
