Ok, Wizards, really? You just released two new classic settings, then tell us that they will be worthless in two years? Most adults cannot finish a campaign within 3.5 years. This does not sit well and seems to be more about a money grab at the height of popularity. I have been waiting for so long for classic settings, and now it's "New versions of the books," "built upon the rules of 5th edition," and "still playable" means that there is a conversation. But like 3rd and 5th, they will have to release new versions as the conversion will be bad. Playtesting and feedback also mean a new edition.
This, as a fan for 30 years, really angers me. Not about changes to the social context, but the game's rules and (of course) cost for new books. That lessens my enjoyment when I'm seeing a new change right after you release good settings.
As for "backward compatibility", the same thing was said about the 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions. However, a 4 to 6-page conversion chart was needed, and the conversions were so poor for adventures you had to rerelease them with Tales from the Yawning Portal. Evidence there is that backward compatibility does not work in D&D.
I don't know about others, but a new edition (same press release as a conversation of 2nd's to 5th's in '99, '08, and '12) is obvious. Anyone at Wizards can confirm that this is not a new brand-new edition and set of rules.
Not that some rules do need to be changed - Forget the long rest rule; sleeping for a night shouldn't restore a dagger into the chest ...?
Asking for confirmation that this is more 5.5 and not 6.
Public Mod Note
(Halfwing):
Moved from D&D Beyond Feedback
I have a lot of opinions on the things you're saying, both agreeing and disagreeing with you, however this board is for feedback on DDB specifically. If you want to let Wizards know what you think of their product, this is not the place to do it.

Leaving OGL 1.0(a) untouched and making SRD 5.1 CC-BY-4.0 is a great first step. The next is a promise to do the same for future editions. Here's a discussion thread on that.
They should have just said this was the last 5E book... then said we're planning, acquiring player feedback and then starting preparations for 6E... Which will take all existing content, update it and mash it together in less books... So.. for example.. Tasha, Xanthar, Player Handbook, the Artificer, Blood Hunter classes and other things that should be in the player's handbook, will be all in one. I'll pay $100 for that, no problem.. but only if they get it right the fist time and 6E would stay as the new, main version for at least 20 years or more.

DDB is great, but it could be better. Here are some things I think could improve DDB
