What I don't understand is why bards have low hitpoints. If someone could explain this to me, it would be much appriciated.

They don’t; they use a d8 for their hit dice (a trait shared by the Artificer, Monk, Rogue, Druid, and Warlock). If your bard has low hit points, it’s due to bad rolls and a low CON score. Getting the Tough feat could help, if you need hit points.
Bards use d8s, which is standard for full casters. Only martials get higher hit points as PCs. I'm not sure why you think they're low, when they're not.
Characters in general have too few Hit Points at low levels in my opinion (as well as monsters), but Bards aren't particularly low.
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.

So, I realised I was tired and added a bit that I didn't mean to (it's now struck through) and added meaning that wasn't intended. Anyway, here's an analysis of the various Hit Dice by class:
As can be seen, the Bard has the largest Hit Dice that is used for Full Casters. It's not particularly large over all, but given the Bard's status as a Full Caster... it's not small either, and has the most common Hit Dice for PCs in the game.

I think Bards, really, more FEEL like they have low HP, because comparing to the others, hey kind of end up in nowhereland in combat early on. Spells pretty much meh, at best, melee as solid as most if they've taken a bit of Dex, AC tending on the low side. I found when I played one I ended up in melee a fair bit and no real tools to get out clean, or mitigate damage so getting hit hurt and happened pretty easily. Bards can be a tricky one to find your stride in early, until your spell list starts opening up some fun stuff. I wound up using a hand crossbow to stay out of the mess a bit, which helped a lot.

Why would they be as tough as fighters or paladins?
