"Clearly from the reaction we rolled a 1" What a trash way of trying to connect to the community you just tried to screw over behind their backs. Honestly the guys at WoTC trying to back pedal and act like they were always gonna take feedback on this before rolling it out and that everything we saw was drafts is hilarious they litterally sent it out with NDA's attached and gave people a week to sign. News flash guys you don't send legally binding contracts and NDA's with just a draft. Even their own employees are against them, and the post on why they didn't roll it out today is adorable it reads less like an apology and more like an ok you got us **** you now stop canceling your subscriptions we just need you idiots to forget about this. Like how dumb do they think this community is? They're litterally just trying to put it off for as long as possible. They're not fighting mega corporations here like they're claiming to they are the mega corporation trying to find another way to make more money off this community. Now they either actually fix the OGL like they're claiming they are or lose the dnd community because let's be honest a bunch of pissed off nerds that just need to stop paying for 50 dollar books and play a different ttrpg is the easiest fight to win ever. We lose a game we love sure but it pisses the higher ups at WoTC off and we get to laugh at their desperate attempts to keep us around, and to any WoTC people reading this I hope you go bankrupt for this I love dnd, but if you guys actually go through with this I will really enjoy watching you lose the billion dollar community that dnd is.
TLDR: The management at WoTC doesn't care about you only your money you're a wallet to them cancel your dnd beyond subscription it's the only language these people speak and don't give these people a cent until a good OGL is confirmed and dnd is free to be used like it should be.
The GSL 2.0 (Lets call this license exactly what it is) still hasn't addressed what people are up in arms about. No one CARES about NFTs. Everyone knows by now crypto is mostly scams and NFTs are the worst. The previous CEO of Hasbro loved NFTs, but the community doesn't give a toss. We care about the fact that they still have an IRREVOCABLE AND PERPETUAL right and ownership to anything we make, and yes they absolutely planned on harvesting content without credit or payment from 3pcs like they can do on the DMsGuild already.
We care about the fact that the GSL STILL replaces the OGL1.0a instead of merely covering from 6e onwards. If they conceded that and made the OGL1.0a irrevocable for 5e and back, it would probably quell the worst of it. That would ensure 5e compatible goods were still protected by the old OGL, and creators would then choose if they wanted to dip into 6e knowing the risks fully. New goods would still come out and enhance the game, and old good could be freely and easily updated. This is probably the best solution for them, but they would lose too much ground from their crumbling castle if they did so.
The GSL STILL crushes the kickstarter market, which helped to reduce risk to new products. People could pay into new goods they personally wanted, and it helped to alleviate the burden of costs to help make more goods possible. Crushing that market would be a huge blow to the influx of goods being made that players themselves wanted to have.
There is NEVER a time when a draft is used in conjunction with contracts. Never. The moment that draft is changed, the contract is in jeopardy. This is just one of the most blatantly wild lies I've ever seen.
The update was a wild ride of absolutely childish language, outright lies, gaslighting (never thought I would have to type that, but here we are), and a PR smokescreen to save their now ruined hide. It didn't actually show us proof of them fixing anything, but they just waffled on about a misunderstanding that a horde of rules lawyers had made. There was no misunderstanding, it was clear as day and the updates to the GSL are just lipstick on a pig. They can't bake us a turd pie and then complain that we don't want to eat it.

Couldn't have said it better they got screwed by their own employees and the content creators who received this awful contract and that should tell us pretty much everything we need to know about the situation. Isn't it wild they're being so greedy and are so out of touch with this community to the point that they actually believe we'll just all forget and start resubing to dnd beyond and they'll just be able to roll this out anyways. Idk about you but my dnd group is already discussing switching to 40k or some other ttrpg with or without them fixing this. Personally I've lost all trust with WoTC if they tried this once they will try again no doubt in my mind. It's clear that they and Hasbro have never cared about this community at a corporate level which doesn't shock me or anyone else obviously, but to so blatantly spit in the face of the community that's made u litteral billions and then lie and try to gas light the community into forgetting about it is too much for me they didn't just roll 1 they rolled two 1's with advantage on a persuasion check with a -5 to charisma. I'll still play dnd but I won't be buying any new books and neither will anyone in my dnd group and from what I've seen on these discussions so far I'm not the only one.
