I was wondering if I could have your thoughts on something.
When creating a game, what if I was to make the world and the metaplot but then give my players total freedom to world-build? So, they can write entire novellas for their backstories, in which they are the main characters, and I would then incorporate those stories into the metaplot. Eventually, running multiple smaller campaigns in which each player gets the chance to be the hero or villain.
So, each smaller campaign would be an individual player's story, and each of those stories would advance the game's metaplot.
Each player also gets the chance to be in the spotlight, to be the main character, and to add to the world through their story.

That each player writes into their backstories would become part of the world history and help to build a diverse and lore-rich game world that changes and evolves according to the actions of the players.
What are your thoughts on this?
Have you tried to run a game like this, or have you played in one? What was it like, how did it turn out, and did you have fun?
Any other thoughts on this idea?
Thanks
