I have an idea of how I would do it, but I want your guys opinions of how I should have my players pack a punch their weapons. As in how should it affect the weapon/armor? Thanks in advance
Do you mean COD-themed weapons and stuff? If that's it, you can just map some of the equipment in the Player's Handbook to modern equipment. For example, a breastplate would become a bullet-proof vest, and plate armor would become riot armor. None of the mechanics change, just the flavor, so it's no different to run than a standard campaign.
Also, there are rules for modern weapons in the Dungeon Master's Guide, but I wouldn't recommend using those, for balance reasons. My DM allowed my ranger to have a revolver in Curse of Strahd, and believe me, it legit carried me through everything all by itself. Although, that might have partially been because he made it a magic revolver too. Regardless, a nonmagical revolver deals comparable damage to a +3 greatsword, at range. That should tell you everything right there.

I believe more details on what you want to achieve are required.
If you want your PCs to do better just give them magic items.
