I was listening to music and felt inspired by the song Riots by SIAMES, a story about 2 parallel worlds where a scientist witnesses their world combining with another, destroying both of them, and even though the settings are vastly different, it's the same series of events that lead to the destruction on both worlds.
My idea is to create a relatively simple story, 2 players at level 4/5 that are hired to investigate some recent missing person cases, leading to them investigating a small town. They find that a wizard has been tampering with a rift in reality, sending in people that never return, with the climactic final battle happening in front of this rift, and it ends up breaking even further.
In parallel however, I will run the same story but set in a different setting, I'm thinking more technology based, still resulting in the rift in reality breaking even further. Then the next session I bring all 4 players together without either group having any idea of the other, so they have different experiences, but they know the same story, letting the 2 parties learn from each other and combine the best parts of both parties.
It's still just a few plot points scribbled down in my notepad, but I would love to have some feedback or advice.
This would be a great Shadowrun / Earthdawn Campaign! The two are inexplicably tied together, one us very high tech, the other is not. As for something to pair with D&D, I would have to go back to GURPS books and find one.
