So you can now technically add a spell that will use spell slots and it will up-cast by adding a feat. BUT you HAVE to use the "Gift of the Metallic Dragon (Charisma, Intelligence, Wisdom)" feat from Fizban Treasury of Dragons source as a base when creating the homebrew feat (there is a hidden mechanic in the feat that is not enabled for other dndbeyond homebrew and its only enabled for the second down cure wounds spell) even when adding new spell they do not use spell slots its only that pre-existing one that can be edited and will use your characters spell slots)
Now for it to work you have to change the second down spell into a selection of spell level or an exact spell and nothing else(more testing is required to see other options but so far this is the only way as I'm writing this). But it is now possible for my warlock to learn Ex. Chromatic Orb and not count against its known spells but use the pact magic slots as he levels up. ^-^
D&D Beyond now that its been Officially in a licenses source. Please Please make this hidden mechanic visible for our other/future homebrew plz.
Hey! So I bought the feat to try and homebrew it to use the spell Magnify Gravity. But it doesn't let me remove the extra stat or the Cure wounds spell. In the edit page it doesn't show them, but then in use- there they are
Looks like dnd beyond (Hasbro) has nerfed the gift of the metallic dragon feat so this doesnt work anymore! Dont know why they would but the options to make this work are now hidden and cant be modified. Just another thing they step back from allowing us creativity. Btw the feats i published using the OLD version still works as intended, there are a bunch to fit different casters and situations. You might be able to go add the homebrew then make a new version of it and moddify it like i say the OLD feat version GoTMD.
Well why even have options to use the official stuff as a templates but then change it so it cant be used as a template!? And now its hard coded to have cure wounds no matter what (what if i dont want cure wounds) oh simple i use a +1 hand axe as a template and make it into a special finesse shortsword with a durability before breaking. But (back then) with this feat i could change the options of the spells and they would use spell slots, and now with the change its not even editable. I think the intended use is and always will be dm/gm/player imagination and this change to the feat is only restricting it!
You can edit the subclass to add the spells and set it to hidden. The feat can be just text.
Not ideal at all, and it would be nice if the homebrew tool could let us do more. But it doesn't, so this is the next best way to get stuff working on the sheet the way ya want.

Sounds like what you were trying to do is something that neither the site nor the game actually intended.
That's the point of having homebrew, isn't it?

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Say, is there a way to make versions of it myself? Since the character builder doesn't let e add the same feat more than once, so I can't add more than 1 spell. Also, I'm playing in a campaign where a character go multiple free spells, so I thought about making something that fits that in a single feat, so I was thinking of using your feat as a template, but can't

Just name each version something different and it will let you add them all.

For that I need the template or just the option to edit it.

Then buy the official one for $1.99 and just make copies of it?

Thats the issue, they did buy it but has been changed since I bought the old version of the feat. Since then the feat cant be used as a template like i did to make a selectable spell that scales with your spell slots as a simple feat but since i grabbed the early version apparently i and any1 else that did with the early version are the only people with that template now. Seems a little anti imaginative to me! BTW sorry you cant edit some1 else's added homebrew i just tried TT, so unless hasbro or dnd beyond reverts the change your only option are the published versions. But if you tell me what you want i can make a version and publish it for you.
Damn Well, basically I'm playing in a campaign, where the nation you start at gives you different bonuses, and the one my character is from is a nation that gives me(even as a brd) 3 lvl 1 and 2 cantrips from the wizard list, cast with INT. no free uses And also another setting which gives me pass without trace and speak with animals, but with 1 free use per day(Like fey touched feat) + using my own spell slots
Note: you can manually check off spells in the DDB sheet. Just click the checkbox for the slot you're using. The "Cast" button is largely unnecessary. Yes, it'd be nice if the sheet did what you wanted it do automatically, but this is far from the first, second, or three hundred and fourteenth time that DDB's dogshit backend code has failed us. The people who promised to fix it all moved away from the site before they did/could and the people who're left have no interest in improving or repairing the tool soooo...
K so you can do 90% of that with my "additional spell for wizard (infinite)(HB)" add the 3 lvl 1 and 2 cantrips then just make yourself a feat and add the pass without a trace, and speak with animals to it and done. Oh, my feats does have a req 16 int but you can disable requirements for feats and it should show up after you add it. And Yurei1453 i have the same thoughts but i have the old template of this feat that uses spell slots (yes its more of a visual function but its still kinda nice to have spells work like they should on your char sheet)
As D&D moves towards the walled garden this is how thing will progress. Whether or not your specific issue is a deliberate adjustment or just a feature that got broken along the way seems to be irrelevant. I do expect to see more of this, but the latest "fireside chats" from WotC still state the we are only going to gain features and it is going to work. I hope that is the case but we really will not know until it happens.
As far as getting your issue fixed, I highly recommend finding an acceptable work around.

Sounds like what you were trying to do is something that neither the site nor the game actually intended.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

It's not about homebrew, it's about the problem appearing to be a technical issue due to the site's design.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
