Hey everyone so I have this idea for an epic campaign that I may be streaming on youtube and I would like to get all of your opinions on it because it is very unusual and may be a bit difficult to run. I have been a DM for about a year now and have ran through several 200+ hour homebrew campaigns in that time so I don't think running it will be too hard, but I digress. So the general Theme that makes this campaign so unique is that all of the PCs are actually going to be the players themselves. We are doing custom classes based on what everyone can do already and it will be set in a very very low magic world. One of my players is a martial artist so I will give him a few monk/unarmed strike abilities. One of my players is a professional musician so I will give her a few bardlike abilities. Stuff like that. I also want to use this to promote them to actually go out and learn new skills, because let's face it, us DnD nerds don't get out too much. So yeah, Just tell me what you think of the idea!
The concept is not as unique as you'd think. I've been in a few isekai or "lost in another world" style games before. Overall they can be generally fun, so long as your players play to their tropes well enough. Things tend to devolve into a bad time if there are players at the table that want to spend the whole game freaking out over every little thing because "oh my god we're normal people in a new world!" and such. but if you basically play it out like the D&D cartoon of the 80's and everybody embraces their better selves, things will go pretty well and everyone will have a blast.
